It’s official: breath of the wild and tears of kingdom does not fit any previous The Legend of Zelda Timeline. As Nintendo revealed this weekend, the two open-world games that are ending the Switch’s life cycle exist independently in their own versions of reality. This means that all the time you spend trying to figure out how they fit in with the previous games is Useless.
The idea is The Legend of Zelda The game exists in some sort of coherent timeline, which has always struck me as a path to madness. Nintendo Australia website Walkers The information was revealed during Nintendo Live 2024 in Sydney over the weekend, with a photo of a slideshow presented by the Japanese publisher listing all the content. Officials previously set two different timetables Salda Cannon, known as the “Heroic Defeat” and the “Heroic Triumph”, branched out after the event Ocarina of Time. The latter immediately split into “childhood” and “adulthood”, while breath of the wild and tears of kingdom Just sits awkwardly on the side and doesn’t fit in anywhere.
According to the slides, in chronological order, the first game is Heavenly Swordfollowed by mini hat and four swordsbefore everything breaks apart ocarina. This also means that the two “most recent” games end up being the first games, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Linkboth set in an “era of decline.” But the epic adventure stories on Switch are loose and not even chronologically connected.
It is worth noting that this official schedule does not mention The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Not at all.
Of course, it would be easier to reject or even support any of this, and consider Salda Like this big box of toys and Nintendo takes them all out and plays with them in a different way every time? Sure, there are Link toys, Zelda toys, and Gannon toys that play on the same cloth map, but there’s no reason at all to want or need them to overlap or interconnect. At least, that’s it I Stay sane.
