Earlier this week, I had a feeling I hadn’t had in a long time: I was looking forward to the release of a work. call of Duty game. black ops 6the latest issue in a long-running call of Duty sub-series, has been telling viewers about all its changes and innovations over the past few months, e.g. its accelerated pace and full range of motion. At the same time, the promotional tour has been also There has been a deliberate attempt to return the franchise to some sort of golden era, and despite regularly posting massive numbers and breaking records year after year, the franchise seems to be as stuck as ever. In recent weeks, players have been excited about the return of systems like Reputation, which I didn’t even realize had been stripped from the game, but my personal favorite is Zombies, a fan-favorite collaboration pattern, becoming a staple COD Since its first launch in 2008.
Over the years, Zombies has evolved from the one-off game mode that launched in 2008. war world at the last moment become a mature peak COD. It features unique maps, weapons, mechanics, characters and story! It’s the home of the weirder side of this otherwise tame, standard series, making it a beloved fixture in the franchise. However, as the game grew in size, so did Zombies, and eventually the mode became clunky and unfamiliar, even to someone who’d been playing it for a long time, and especially someone like me who viewed it as a For those who play casual games, it is a third space that can be entered and exited with friends.
black ops 6However, they keep making promises Its zombie iteration will be a reset for the pattern. It’s a return to the most basic experience: kill zombies, accumulate points, buy and upgrade cool perks and weapons, rinse and repeat. The mode will return to turn-based progression, the maps won’t be these maze-like sprawls – at least at first – and the developers promise it’ll even streamline storytelling for Zombies, which now consists of scattered across several different areas of many different survivor teams. While I couldn’t deliver on every promise, I did successfully load zombies into black ops 6On launch night, playing it with a friend I last played alongside a few years ago, I loved almost every bit of it, if I may say.
The key to my positive experience was that, for the first time in a long time, call of Duty The mode doesn’t feel all that burdensome. There’s no doubt there’s a lot to know, like how you can customize your loadout from the start, choose which Gobblegum perks you can earn in matches, and more. But that didn’t stop me from falling into Liberty Falls – one of black ops 6There are two zombie maps at launch – with my friends, buy a wall gun, kite hordes of zombies on a circular route, and take them out.
The lengthy game I played gave me a chance to familiarize myself with the map, the American-style town, and the rhythm of the turns. black ops 6Zombies occasionally features special rounds consisting of different enemy types – this time spiders, much to the chagrin of arachnophobes everywhere. Part of me really misses the Zombies announcer’s “Bring me their souls!” good old days away from Hellhound rounds, but I can accept that some things have to change.
To that end, this new Zombies experience isn’t without Some Innovation. Armor plates now appear in Zombies, inherited from war zone, call of Dutyof the battle royale title and dropped from enemies. Recycling is also available and can be used at crafting benches around the map to craft equipment such as armor, grenades, or to upgrade the rarity and base damage of weapons. Some pickups even let you mutate into special zombie enemy types, and maps have their own magical weapons instead of a generic pool. Points are no longer assigned by hits, but by kills – a change I No Love, especially when enemies become more cavernous in later rounds and points threaten to become scarce, and no longer fortifying barriers and windows, which can stagger enemy releases and prevent rounds from immediately devolving into open chaos .
The biggest change, at least for me as the last person to play these games black ops 3is among the composition of the zombie team. New maps and iterations of Zombies have long featured some sort of central gimmick or even boss character, such as George Romero in Dead Call, the prison warden in Dead Swarm, and even in Zombies Avogadro in. transportationbut in black ops 6the waves of enemies look a lot different than what I’m used to. There’s a mix of armored zombies and standard zombies, which will push players towards higher-damage builds faster, but in addition to spiders (which can also spawn from dying zombies), there are mini-bosses that will appear periodically and then completely Crush you late in the game. Crushers are heavily armored beasts that fire homing concussive blasts, while these three-headed beasts known as Abominations fire electricity from any of their maws and command the entire battlefield when they appear.
Many of these changes are welcome additions to something I think has been around for a while, but most importantly, none of them get in the way of pursuing the classic thrill of running long distances and shooting with friends. Zombies has a lot of depth and depth to choose from black ops 6but in its purest form it’s a blast, and it hasn’t felt like that in a long time. Not only am I looking forward to playing through the other Zombies experiences in the base game (a moodier map called Terminus), but also adapting strategies old and new and settling into familiar patterns. While I can’t tell the whole story yet, we’re back at it as far as Zombies is concerned.
