The multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is now open for early access, but unfortunately, the servers crashed due to the influx of players logging in early at the same time. Since Activision has added more servers, many of the issues have been resolved.
The server came online around 10am PT/1pm ET, and with many people joining at the same time, it seemed like it was causing some issues due to simple server load. Developer Treyarch is now adding more servers to help handle the load. “More servers? More servers!” Treyak said. [Update: the server deployment has been enacted and Activision says improvements have been made to the multiplayer experience as a result]
One big change in the Black Ops 6 beta compared to past betas of Call of Duty games is that the beta will be available on all platforms at the same time. In the past, PlayStation users got in first because Sony paid Activision. But Microsoft now owns Call of Duty and has changed its strategy.
A statement from Call of Duty’s updated account stated that “Black Ops 6” is implementing a login queue to help handle server load. For players who are able to enter, they may experience long wait times for matchmaking. “We’re working hard to deploy more servers so players can get into the game and start competing,” the company said.
The Black Ops 6 beta is now open to players who pre-ordered the game or have Xbox Game Pass. Other ways to get in early include purchasing Xfinity or paying $1 for a Game Pass trial. The early access period lasts until September 4th.
Black Ops 6 will fully launch on October 25th, including the ’90s-era campaign mode, multiplayer, and Zombies (turn-based matches return).
