Ben Grimm may be the most powerful member of the Fantastic Four, but once upon a time, he was just a scrawny kid from Yancey Street. When an uninvited visitor from his past sends him to find a missing child, The Thing must solve the mystery, even if it means becoming a wanted man! Get ready to watch the ever-lovable blue-eyed monster take on every super-powered criminal and bounty hunter in New York City! Flex and Kirk give you a glimpse into The Thing’s history, reminding you why Ben Grimm is at the heart of the Marvel Universe… and why you don’t want him to hear you say it!
“What I love about Ben Grimm is that he’s just a hardworking, regular guy who happens to have superpowers,” Flex shared. “He’s Jack Kirby. He’s not easily impressed by all the weird cosmic stuff that’s going on around him.
“The fun thing about the book is trying to figure out – ‘Okay, so what would surprise this thing? What would catch him off guard?’ In that spirit, we threw every villain in The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe to him. Try to pit him against some opponents you wouldn’t expect. We had Leonard Kirk draw The Thing! Trust me, you’re going to see old Benjy beat some guys he’s never beaten before.
“I’ve been running for ten years Fantastic Four I’m excited to be working on this series with everyone’s favorite orange boxing hero, Ben Greene,” said Kirk. “The villains he faces range from the not-so-serious to the absolutely iconic, and I’m really looking forward to drawing them all. This first issue is already a lot of fun, and I know I’m going to enjoy the rest.
