The high price point of PlayStation’s PS5 Pro has been a hot topic, and EA’s Vince Zampella has weighed in, offering a more middle-of-the-road price for the console. Zampella said he thought the price was “actually not that bad” compared to other options, although he admitted it was still expensive for many people.
In an interview with IGN discussing the future of Battlefield, including a return to modern environments, Respawn head and general manager of EA’s Studio Organization Group said the PS5 Pro’s pricing isn’t much higher when adjusted for inflation. Compared to some previous consoles, it offers better performance than a PC built for the same cost. Still, Zampella admits the asking price is higher than many would like.
“So I mean, it’s a balance. Is this expensive for people? Absolutely. Not everyone can afford it,” Zampella said. “Would it be better if it were cheaper? Sure. I wish more people had it. But it really makes sense.”
As for what the PS5 Pro means for the next entry in the Battlefield series, Zampella said the team will have to wait and see. Overall adoption rates will impact the team’s capabilities, he continued. In addition, since the next “Battlefield” must still run on the base version of PS5, the team will only consider what can be “added” for PS5 Pro users.
EA has yet to announce when fans can expect the next Battlefield game, but the PS5 Pro launch is right around the corner. While the $700 price tag puts it off for many, anyone who wants to play PS5 games at the highest quality possible may still want to buy it.
