producer and creator of the show riverdale, Roberto Aguirre-SacasaA series based on ’90s tabloid character Batboy is in development with One Piece producer Joe Tracz, and Netflix has picked up the project.
The show, based on the Batboy character who first appeared in supermarket tabloid World News, is being developed as a teen horror comedy.
The goofy Batboy character has previously appeared on stage in the off-Broadway show Batboy: The Musical, but this series has nothing to do with it.
Here’s a description of the series: “In this adaptation of the coming-of-age series, the protagonist is a teenager named Bobby Bates.
With the help of fellow teen Charisma and her eccentric sister Oliver, Bobby re-enters mainstream society after living in suburban seclusion in the remnants of a long-running carnival.
“When Bobby enters Cypressville High School, he begins a journey of self-discovery while trying to find his place among his new peers and society, and trying to solve a mystery that arises in the Florida swamps.
“Along with all this, he’s also rocking his half-bat-like features, like sharp teeth and pointy ears – oh, and there’s a little problem, he needs human blood.”
I can’t believe they’re making a Batboy series, but it has the potential to be really fun. In the 1990s, the Weekly World News comic “The Adventures of Batboy” told the story of Batman.
The stories always involved him always being on the run from suspicious government agents, sometimes getting caught, only to escape and start over.
