Between Joker: Pas de Deux , The Penguin , and Batman: Caped Crusader , 2024 is already shaping up to be a great year for DC’s Dark Knight. But now, it’s Robin’s turn to take the spotlight. Or rather, it’s Robins’ turn, as Batman’s first two sidekicks, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, are getting their own animated films in Dynamic Duo.
Via Deadline, “The Batman” director Matt Reeves is developing “Dynamic Duo” from a script by Matthew Aldrich, which has no ties to the universe of his epic crime saga. Animation will be produced by Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson’s new studio Swaybox. Mintz will also direct the film.
Shortly after the story broke, DC Studios co-executive James Gunn confirmed the news on social media.
Very excited to announce the release of the latest DC Studios/Warner Bros. Pictures animated film, DYNAMIC DUO, which tells the story of Robin…or should I say, Robins, as Dick Grayson and Jason Torres… Virtue like that. Swaybox’s signature animation style has been described as a cross between CGI animation, stop-motion animation and live-action real-time performance. The studio’s name for this technology is “Momo Animation.”
Reeves said in a statement: “I’ve wanted to make a movie with Arthur and Sweetbox for years, and this movie became ‘Dynamic Duo,’ a very special and unique take on Batman and Batman. Bin family story is a dream.
Gunn and Peter Safran will serve as producers on Dynamic Duo with Reeves. The film does not yet have a release date.
