Ahead of New York Comic Con 2024 appearance, Image Comics announces its final title horizon experiment initiative. Written by Vita Ayala And by Skylar Partridgethe color is Jason Wardy and letters and designs Becca Kelly, Horizon Experiment: Discoverers//Guardians #1 will hit shelves in January, completing the publisher’s initial run of five one-off titles.

Ayala and Partridge’s Discoverer//Guardian Described as “reverse indiana jones The story follows Ines Guarua, a Puerto Rican archaeology graduate student who plans to return an important artifact from a museum to the rainforest where it belongs.
But the stakes are high. According to the solicitation text, “If she failed, the curse could lead to the destruction of Puerto Rico. This led Guarua to seek to smuggle other artifacts from museums and institutions in order to return them to their native culture.
Like other single shots in the series, Discoverer//Guardian Doubling as a creator-owned “pilot” issue, it means Ines can star in more comics in the future.
“I have always loved action-adventure stories, but archetypal protagonists and most traditional settings were not suitable for someone like me,” Ayala said in a statement. “Working on horizon experimentI knew I’d found a way to open up the world to anyone who wanted to be a hero! I’m so excited to be joining such a great team and working on one of the most interesting projects of my career!
Partridge added, “Discoverer//Guardian is a dream project—narratively, artistically, and thematically—and horizon experiment provides a much needed stage to tell such stories. Rarely does a project come together so perfectly, and building and shaping this world with Vita, Pornsak, and Will was both gratifying and inspiring. Add in the amazing work of colorist Jason Wordie and typeface designer Becca Carey, and it truly feels like winning the creative lottery.
