ASTRA and its members are eagerly approaching the 2024 holidays. Our first-ever Play Awards catalog featuring all shortlisted products is now available. Neighborhood Toy Store Month is scheduled for November, with new products arriving in the store every day and a fourth season expected to be exciting.
What will happen this season? Sales can never be predicted, but ASTRA’s research into consumer preferences for shopping in local specialty stores shows that households want to shop local and support independent retailers. Regarding the factors that drive when, where and how consumers purchase toys, a resounding message emerged from all focus groups: convenience and helpful, friendly staff are crucial. Having products in stock, the ability to shop online and prompt delivery and access to expert advice on quality toys and games are top priorities. Of course, this is the advantage of ASTRA member retailers! The challenge, however, is letting everyone know that we are here and that we are ready.
The road ahead
In 2025 we look forward to a first season filled with Toy Fair, Toy Days, New York Toy Fair, various gift shows, and our very own toy boat experience, soon to set sail on its second voyage, which will set sail in March Number 17 is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
At ASTRA we firmly believe that the first season is when you need to plan your budget to invest in building your business, and each show brings a different approach and perspective. Whether it’s finding new products, networking, or learning, each approach offers options to help you grow. Members of the ASTRA team will be involved in all events as this is the absolute best way to stay connected, not only with all areas of our industry (Toys, Gifts, Books, Retailers, Manufacturers, Sales Representatives, Affiliates and Suppliers), And it’s the best way to stay connected.
In June, ASTRA’s Marketplace & Academy opened in San Antonio, Texas. Following this year’s great event in St. Louis, our team is already working to enhance and improve the experience at this year’s show, taking place June 1-4. When developing the 2025 budget, ASTRA is committed to providing cost-effective special packages for retailers to take advantage of the entire conference and trade show.
In addition, regional performances, competition days and ASTRA Zoom gatherings provide opportunities for networking and learning throughout the year.
By working with our industry partners, including the Toy Association, ToyFest, Spielwarenmesse, GAMA and regional gift markets in Dallas, Atlanta, Las Vegas and more, we see a positive future that is driven by Promoted by spreading awareness about toys.
