As many fans believe, Splatoon 3’s grand festival is its final Splatfest, so the game’s regular updates are coming to an end.
Splatoon 3 had a huge festival over the weekend, which heavily hinted that it would be the grand finale of the past two years of Splatfest. Now, as announced on Splatoon North America’s official Twitter, regular updates have ended, but that doesn’t mean support for the game is coming to an end. “After Splatoon 3 has gone through 2 INK trusted years, regular updates will end,” the announcement tweet reads. “Don’t worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue, with some returning themes! Weapon tuning updates will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and monthly challenges will continue for the time being. ”

If you don’t know, the theme of this Splatfest revolves around the past, present, and future, with Callie and Marie from the first game representing the past, Pearl and Marina from the second game representing the present, and Deep Cut from the third game representing the future. Unfortunately for Deep Cut, Future finished last with an overall score of zero. The current incumbents (Pearl and Marina) are in second place with 370 points, and the past incumbents (i.e. Callie and Marie) are in first place with 500 points. The thing to note here is that the final Splatfest of the first and second games had little impact on the storyline of the subsequent games. So if Splatoon 4 is in the works, it’ll be interesting to see how past wins impact it.

The Japanese Nintendo Channel also released a really cute video showing off the grand festival in action, which you can check out above, along with various pieces of art that have been released in conjunction with Splatfest over the past few years, along with their respective winners (though, if you I don’t know some because Japan and the West occasionally have different themes).
With Splatoon 3 now complete, it might be a while before we get a new game, especially since the specific development team has a lot of overlap with Animal Crossing, and a Switch 2 announcement could be coming at any time, which seems like perfect Start the platform.
