Most moviegoers agree that “Alien: Romulus” is a very entertaining entry, perhaps even the best sci-fi horror series since “Alien” (1986). Well, it depends on how crazy you personally are about where your team is ranked. Regardless, with both Alien and Predator now back on track, 20th Century Studios doesn’t seem to be slowing down and is already filming the next Predator standalone movie.
Through AvP Galaxy’s stellar work on Aliens and Predator over the years, we know Predator: Badlands is now filming in New Zealand. The writing duo of Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) and Patrick Eason (War for the Planet of the Apes) are back at the helm, so there’s reason to celebrate as 2022’s Prey” was a huge success.

This time, however, after Prey received incredible critical acclaim and satisfied most fans, there are plans to release the next Predator movie in theaters. People at Disney knew they screwed up by putting it on Hulu/Disney Plus. Looking at how much Alien: Romulus did at the box office on an $80 million budget, a pretty good Predator movie. Maybe it would do well in the theater too.
Earlier this summer, we learned that Elle Fanning would star in Into the Badlands , but details about her character were kept under wraps. Now, the guys at AvP Galaxy have dug up a vague but interesting synopsis: “A groundbreaking film in which one of two main storylines delves into the intricate relationship between two very different sisters, whose Family relationships are put to the ultimate test in their pursuit.
It seems that the protagonist twin sisters are both played by Fanning. One person is innocent and fearless, while the other person appears more “warlike” and intense. The actual plot and setting remain a mystery, but we already know the story takes place in the near future. If we combine this with the title “Into the Badlands,” perhaps we can surmise that climate change is somewhat important to the plot. In fact, global warming is easily linked to the predator myth, as this species prefers warmer environments.
Regardless, we’ll likely get more official details and casting news in the coming months, as the film is expected to wrap production this fall. This could indicate a release date of late 2025 or spring/summer 2026, depending on how quickly Disney and 20th Century Studios want to move forward.
