Now Lucasfilm’s clown show has a new twist: “The Disappearing Writer.” I’ll hurry up and say it, the legendary Rey movie has lost another screenwriter. First Damon Lindelof and a writing partner were “fired” over creative differences…and then Kathleen Kennedy hired Steven Knight – He was the co-developer of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and the showrunner/writer of Peaky Blinders – and after 18 long months, they still had nothing. Kennedy reportedly disliked all of Knight’s proposed treatments. Knight himself has done a lot, just not anything for Star Wars, he’s working on the Peaky Blinders movies, and he’s busy creating a new studio in Hollywood. So if you follow the news, it’s no surprise that Knight is now no longer involved in the Rey movie.
According to Variety , Shareen Obaid-Chinoy is still involved in the project, yes, of course.
Part of me hopes Lucasfilm can pull this off and deliver the biggest Star Wars disaster of all time. The sane part of me wants them to wake up and stop this before Star Wars ends for good. But if they want to continue…my suggestion is, hire Leslye Headland, surely a movie about a woman needs a female writer? You can also end a star war spectacularly.
What are your thoughts?
