When Calls the Heart has some competition.
Here at TV Fanatic, we’ve been actively discussing bringing hopeful content back to TV, and it seems others share the same desire.
Today, Angel Studios announced that their series Home to Harmony will begin production in 2025.
The play is a situational drama based on the best-selling book series by Philip Gulley.
Michael Landon Jr. and Brian Bird, the creators of When Calls the Heart, are at the heart of Harmony House. They will also be joined by Ken LaZebnik, who co-wrote the film version of “A Prairie Home Companion.”
“The Angels enthusiastically approved the Home to Harmony proof-of-concept torch,” said Jared Geesey, Chief Publishing Officer of Angel Studios.
“Our audience is eager to support quality entertainment that the whole family can enjoy together. Harmony House ticks all the boxes and we are extremely honored to be working with these incredible storytellers.
This is the official log line:
Harmony House tells the contemporary story of former Brooklyn pastor Sam Gardner, who, after the death of his wife, returns with his two children to his eccentric hometown of Harmony, Indiana, to take over his childhood church.
Throughout his journey, he rediscovers his passion for serving others and his ability to love, especially his childhood crush on lawyer and single mother Deena Morrison.
Together they must face the challenge of reconciling Sam’s faith with Dina’s pragmatic lifestyle, while resisting the attraction of their budding romance.
Their connection may be the key to saving Harmony as a person—while battling a corrupt mayor who is secretly trying to turn Harmony into an Atlantic City Indian.
The show is in the early stages of casting and is expected to begin pre-production in early 2025.
Michael Landon Jr., the son of legendary television and film icon Michael Landon, has left a major mark on the film industry over the past 30 years.
He wrote, directed and produced a two-hour film that launched the Hallmark Channel’s hit series When Calls the Heart.
In addition, Langdon has written, directed and produced two dozen films and co-authored four published novels, with a fifth to be released in spring 2025.
“When the soul calls spawned a passionate grassroots movement of millions of fans who call themselves ‘Hatis,’” Landon said.
“This dedicated community wants to see their values represented on television and in movie theaters. We are committed to continuing to bring hope, faith and love to them.
Ken LaZebnik is a television writer, screenwriter, and playwright. Over the past 25 years, he has written more than 100 hours of network television (including “Touched by an Angel”) and many seasons of Garrison Keillor’s radio show “A Prairie Home Companion.”
He co-wrote with Keller the final film adaptation of Robert Altman’s radio show, as well as the hit holiday film Thomas Kincaid’s “The Christmas Cabin.”
“Phil Gurley’s Harmony The book is full of humor, emotion, romance and optimism,” Razebnik said. “We love the abbreviation Heroes because these dynamics give us everything we need to create a series that delivers all the feels for our audience.”
Brian Bird is the executive producer and co-developer of When Calls the Heart and is currently filming Season 12.
Brian, who has written and/or produced nearly three dozen films (including “The Case for Christ” and “The Last Life”) and 450 episodes of television (including “Touched by an Angel” and “When Hope Calls”) will tell the story enthusiasm brought audiences around the world.
“The success of ‘When Calls the Heart’ proves that there is a large, underserved audience ready to tell stories to amplify hope and light,” Bird said.
“When almost everyone else is serving up dark, cynical content, we believe in serving ‘soul food.’ When you feed hungry people… they will love you back.
I don’t know about you, but we’re ready for more content that reminds us of who we are at our core, through themes of faith, community, human flaws, and the importance of kindness.
What do you think? Does Harmony House call you to Indiana?
