According to The Hollywood Reporter , a promotional event Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Drinks at AMC Theaters with MacGuffin’s Bars can cost up to $31, depending on your state’s liquor tax laws.
The 24-ounce “Sandworm Slayer” cocktail is described as “a blend of blue and black raspberries on the rocks,” served with [an undisclosed] Premium vodka. If you plan on taking this concoction to the theater, the drink is topped with six sour gummy worms (probably Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers) and served in a plastic cup. As the store points out, the blue drink retails for a typically relatively modest, yet somehow still terrifying, $21. The unlucky customer above happened to purchase his Sandworm Slayer in Illinois, which “raised the price of the drink to $28.25 (plus tax).”
For its cost, many pointed out that the cocktail (even though it tasted incredible, which seems rather questionable) was visually underwhelming and didn’t do its best to evoke TI, either in theme or presentation. Amberton’s movie. First, why does this happen? blue? Similar to Beetlejuice himself, Sandworm is a black and white striped annelid with a pair of red eyespots and two sets of greenish-tinged lips. There are several ways to represent this as a visually striking cocktail that’s almost worth the $20-30 price point.
One of them is a cocktail layered with black syrup and white liqueur, reminiscent of the creature’s flesh, with two maraschino cherries as eye candy. Add green sugar to the rim of a tall glass and your drink already takes on the basic look of a sandworm. If that’s too difficult, just offer a black and white striped straw with your cocktail. make the drink green one instead of blue you already have more Beetlejuice-More advanced than AMC’s confusing Sandworm. Hell, you can even have extra bomb shots to represent the worm’s actual head. Not to mention a drink that can evoke memories of Lydia’s iconic red wedding dress, or the surreal “Day-O” musical number from the first film.
The disappointment over AMC’s ridiculously expensive drink pairings is less a reflection of capitalism gone haywire than a failure of the theater chain’s creativity. Given the company’s recent brush with death, you’d think it would be thinking more about the grave. Or at least alcohol.
