Alien: Romulus will include a nod to the 2014 survival horror game Alien: Isolation. Director Fede Alvarez recently said that the Creative Assembly games taught him a lot about horror, and he paid homage to the game with a little easter egg in Alien: Romulus.
“The setting of this movie is like this [that] Whenever something bad is about to happen, you see a cell phone,” he said on the Inside Total Film podcast. “In games, every time you know there’s a phone, you’re like, ‘Fuck, I’m going to get into some bad set pieces. It’s the same thing here. You’ll see them strategically placed throughout the movie. Implanted. When you see the phone, you feel it: Get ready for impact.
Alvarez went on to say that “Alien: Isolation” was an experience that “showed me that Alien was really scary and well done. [today]”.
“I was like, ‘Fuck, if I could do something, I’d love to be in Alien and scare audiences again with that creature and those environments.’ As I was playing it, I realized that if you bring it back With that tone, Alien would be so scary,” he said.
“Alien: Romulus” will be released on August 16. A team of space colonists are scouring an abandoned space station for supplies when they encounter a big, bad alien. The movie stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonson, Archie Renault, Isabella Merced, Spike Finn, and Erin Ng.
Ridley Scott is the director of the original “Alien” and the producer of “Alien: Romulus.”
