After “Prometheus” and “Alien: Testament” were poorly received by Alien fans and critics, “Alien: Romulus” attempts to return the series to its roots. Along the way, it looks back at essentially every other major piece of media from the Alien franchise, revisiting iconic lines and reflecting on memorable scenes and images. It spends a lot of time showing how much the original Alien and Alien movies influenced it, but its references come from all over – including the 2014 video game phenomenon Alien: Isolation.
