Mountaintop Studios has officially announced the release date for its debut game, Specter Divide. The free-to-play shooter will be available on Steam next week, Tuesday, September 3rd. Created by a veteran team at Riot, Bungie, and Respawn, Specter Divide brings a new twist to the competitive shooter genre.
Having recently concluded several rounds of closed beta, the game will soon be available to anyone with a Steam account; no invitations or registration required.

The Phantom Divide was just revealed earlier this month. The game combines elements from Valorant, Counter-Strike, and other shooters, while adding the unique element of being able to jump between different bodies.
Although this is a 3v3 shooter, it plays more like a 6v6, as each player controls two ghosts. This duality mechanism creates various tactical opportunities, such as positioning one body to monitor a bomb site while controlling another body to cover their back.
It takes a little getting used to, but feedback from the closed beta has been overwhelmingly positive. And, after the disappointing release of Sony’s Concord, maybe a free-to-play shooter that tries to do something new (and doesn’t borrow too much from other popular games) would be well-received by players.
The server will be online at 9am PT, 12pm ET, 5pm BST same day. There are hosts in the US, EU, Asia Pacific and Australia – so you should get good ping performance no matter where you are in the world. The launch brings a new map, but ranked matchmaking won’t be available immediately, but will be soon.
If you’re interested, you can watch the launch trailer above (or any of the dozens of hours of footage online) to learn more. You can also choose to add the game to your Steam wishlist.
