Compiling a list of the best comics to buy this week, September 18th, is definitely a daunting task. question? There are so many great comics out there, and this week’s art especially shines. I swear, I must have reconfigured my five recommendations a dozen times this week – and I’m sure I’ll want to change them again once they go live. But what can you do? Check out my picks below, along with the usual list of releases…enjoy!
The most worth buying comics on September 18, 2024
Barb #2
writer: Garth Ennis
artist: Jason Burrows
Colorist: Andy Troy and Lee Loveridge
Writer: Rob Steen
Publisher: Oops Comics
Garth Ennis and Jason Burrows’ sword-and-satire epic gets even thicker as the savage thief Bubbles is forced into an awkward confrontation with the skeletal undead king and his equally undead queen! Meanwhile, a mysterious goblin plots revenge on Bubbles.
Why it’s cool: This is the funniest comic of the year, and the second issue continues to build on the ideas of the first. It’s a high fantasy of American populism in 2024, complete with penis enlargement jokes, and it just work.
price: $3.99
The moon follows us #1
writer: Daniel Warren Johnson
artist: Riley Rossmo
Colorist: Mike Spicer
Writer: Sean Lee
Publisher: Image comics
Sam LaMarr and Duncan LaMarr loved their six-year-old daughter, Penny, more than anything in the world. But half a year ago, she was taken away by the waterfall, an evil force they barely understood. Now, Sam and Duncan must fight alongside the magical creatures Penny holds dear in an attempt to bring her back before she is lost forever.
Why it’s cool: It’s a gateway reality series with heartbreak at its core, but it’s Riley Rossmo and Mike Spicer’s art that really elevates it. This is a perfect fit for Rossmo’s aesthetic and approach to visual storytelling.
price: $3.99
Paranoid Garden #3
writer: Gerald Way and Sean Simon
artist: Chris Weston
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Writer: Nate Pickos
Publisher: dark horse comics
Lou and the staff at the care center were upset when they discovered the garden where they lived was dying. As she desperately searches for a cure, a mysterious spy employed at an exotic amusement park stands in her way, preventing the garden from healing.
Why it’s cool: The more we get into this book and its mysterious and absurd artwork, the more I love it. This issue contains some of the most confusing sequences yet, making it one of my top comics to buy for September 18th. This is so weird and awesome.
price: $4.99
Power Fantasy #2
writer: Kieron Gillen
artist: Caspar Weingard
Writer: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: Image comics
Six people can save the world. They save the world every day without using their powers. Yesterday, someone used their gift. The world is still here. Are we lucky, or has the fuse that will end us all been lit?
Why it’s cool: The first issue of this book was excellent, and the second issue is a worthy enough follow-up. The story seems to delve into the global issue of mutual destruction in the decades-long personal relationships between superheroes. If that’s not enough, it also features top-notch artwork by Caspar Wijngaard.
price: $3.99

Why it’s cool: Super giant The first four issues have been some of the grittiest, craziest monster fiction I’ve ever seen…and now it’s back with its foot right on the pedal. Prepare to be shocked and disturbed as these big guys fight for the fate of our planet.
