The most worthwhile comics to buy on August 7th are among the new #1 comics, occupying all but 2 of the top 5 comics. It’s easy to overemphasize new beginnings on a recommendation list like this, but otherwise this is still a very interesting group, starting with a nuanced take on superheroes (power fantasy) to a very different kind of nuanced look at superheroes (pedestrian). You can find my picks below, along with a list of commonly used ones…enjoy!
The most worth buying comics on August 7, 2024

For the first time in 70 years, the infinite fury of EC Comics comes alive, tearing at the very fabric of the universe itself and twisting the bizarre stories of space and time into our dimensional plane!
Why it’s cool: The second comic anthology as part of the EC revival, cruel universe There are some really interesting creators working on this book, from writers like Matt Kindt and Corinna Bechko, to Kano and Jonathan Keys Artists such as Jonathan Case, whose styles are very suitable for this type of book.

Pedestrian #1
writer: Joey Esposito
artist: Sean von Gorman
Colorist: Josh Jensen
Writer: Sean Lee

Behold, travelers! A strange visitor quickly walks into Summer City and quietly changes the lives of the residents. But all is not quiet in this sleepy town – an ancient conflict involving the secret history of the street signs is brewing! Don’t walk…run! In “Pedestrian”, justice always has the right to go first!
Why it’s cool: I mean, Exhibit A—just look at that cover. It’s weird, funny, and attention-grabbing. But once the cover hooks you, the book delivers the mesmerizing weirdness it promises. This is a book full of wisdom and a sharp sense of humour, and there’s nothing like it. What a great start.

Power Fantasy #1
writer: Kieron Gillen
artist: Caspar Weingard
Writer: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: Image comics
You have certain preconceptions. They are incorrect. Here, the word has a specific technical definition. That is “any individual with the destructive capability of the United States’ nuclear arsenal.” There are six such people on earth. The survival of the Earth depends on them never coming into conflict. Come dance to the ticking of the doomsday clock with Kieron Gillen (Evil + Divine, Death) and Caspar Wijngaard (Home Sick Pilots, All Against All). The eternal battle begins now.
Why it’s cool: Come for the S-Class Caspar Wijngaard artwork, stay for the high-minded philosophical dissection of not just superheroes, but superpowers of any kind. I thought I knew what this comic was going to be, but it surpassed even my high expectations, pushing its concept further than I thought it would. This is a must read.

Now, the Sudzuka-Svorcina team is working with Stephanie Phillips… and the results are just as great. Don’t miss the start of what could be your new favorite gritty crime comic.

Space Ghost #4

As Space Ghost and his young allies continue to dig deeper into the evils of the Droid Corporation, a new threat is emerging—one that could be deadlier than all the rogue corporations and space pirates in the galaxy combined! Zorak and his army of fanatical Zorathian warriors broke free from their specially designed prisons and came to exact revenge on the guardians of the space portal. As if that wasn’t bad enough, our heroes also have to face the power of Titano!
Why it’s cool: This David Peppers/Liu Qiaosen space ghost The Run has certainly been a blockbuster, and now four issues in, we’re probably getting to see Space Ghost’s most iconic villain, at least for those of us who are familiar with the Space Ghost character That’s it. space ghost coast 2 coast. But the comic treats Zorak’s arrival with the seriousness it deserves (think the Joker’s appearance in “Batman”), and the result is the comic’s best single issue since its debut.
