Sailing around in a small boat that occasionally sinks because you’re too lazy to stand up and kill the Kraken trying to break the boat apart is a key part of the excitement of exploring (or just traveling between missions) in The Witcher 3. However, if you’ve ever imagined that Geralt could have a boat that could safely store all the drowned heads he carries in his saddlebags, a new mod will let you try your hand at sailing a full-sized boat.
Yes, it’s another pet project made possible by the game’s REDkit modding tool, and it’s far from the first sea-based project, with another mod bringing back the game’s deleted boat race in July.

TrickArrant’s Sailing Ship not only has one of the best “walk the talk” names on Nexus Mods, it also puts Gerry from Rivia aboard the massive frigates anchored in ports like Novigrad. The drivable version serves as a static object in the base game. You’ll just have to leave your immersion at the door a little, because in the words of its own creator, it has “a fair amount of lag.”
Seriously though, there’s an entire section in the description titled “Stuttering Summary” and it’s longer than the instructions. The latter basically tells you to head to the ports of Novigrad or Kelterold, as there are now special drivable large ships docked in them. You need to jump up to the main deck and get to the steering wheel and boom, as you can see in the video below you can pilot this big ship by having Geralt sit in the air in front of it because this The mod basically wants to place its large ships on top of the preset rowboats.

So there are a lot of quirks to be aware of, not least the fact that you can swim across the sides of the ship since only the decks collide. If you fall into the water by the way, this is actually how you get back on the ship, swim around the sides of the big ship until you find the little rowboat inside, then climb into it and teleport back to the deck of the frigate. Just think of it as a portal, even though Geralt hates them. Due to the same quirk, you’ll also find large ships flying through things and letting enemies fly into them when they attack.
“The marine machinist worked a lot harder than I thought I would in trying to make this product, so I finally got it to a usable point, but it’s certainly far from perfect,” TrickArrant wrote. But really, I see this as a fun little one-off mod that you can install, play with for 10-20 minutes, and then probably throw away.
If you play The Witcher 3 on PS5 for 10-20 minutes, you obviously won’t be able to use this mod, but the game is at least part of this month’s PS Plus lineup, so that might save you some time.
