Which brings us to another potential spinoff—no, not a Jon Snow show; That’s completely outside the scope of the discussion – and honestly, we almost forget that we’re focused on Aegon the Conqueror, the first great Targaryen ruler. He was the first monarch of the Seven Kingdoms, meaning he preceded his namesake, King Aegon II, by several generations. Dragon House Fans know it. But his legacy (and certain symbols of his reign, such as his sword Blackfire, and the massive skull of his dragon Balerion) loom large, especially in King’s Landing.
The excitement of Aegon’s conquests was a natural choice game of Thrones spin-off, as well as one of the creative staff working on the potential show (e.g. Wan Chuannot yet official with HBO) is Mattson Tomlin, who is currently doing the rounds promoting Netflix’s new animated series Terminator Zero. Nexus Point News (via Collider) asked Tomlin about his approach to writing the Aegon the Conqueror series, which appears to be taking cues from the ongoing Targaryen history Dragon HouseMartin’s fire and blood.
“It starts with what George did. I’ve spent a lot of time with him now and a lot of painful moments. fire and bloodhighlight the passage, and ask, “What does this mean?” What’s this? What I think it is. You know, sometimes it’s really grilling him about, “I don’t understand, what’s going on here.” And then sometimes it’s like, “I thought it might mean this.” But it’s actually treating these texts as real. Treat it with history,” he explained.
“…My method is [that] fire and blood Like true history, these things happened…but there’s another saying that people much smarter than me have said: History is written by the victors,” Tomlin continued. “Then there’s that. For me, it’s about making sure that I respect George and I respect the text. And, it still has to be a dramatic story. These characters have to go on a journey; they have to change; they have to go from the beginning to the middle to the end. Figuring out how to do all of this using the clues that the textbook left me, and then, okay, I’m going to explain this very real history and try to make it a very vivid show that hopefully people enjoy and Don’t like hate, try my best.
