So what causes collect?
Matsumoto: We’ve had quite a few conversations with people at Marvel and we’re trying to figure out how to re-release these games on modern platforms. It took a while, but we were finally able to make it happen at this point and we’re all really excited that it’s out now.
Amazing. Can I ask how long this job took?
Matsumoto: Maybe three or four years now?
Are you familiar with the #FreeMVC2 movement? If so, did this have any impact on the release of this series?
Matsumoto: Yes, I know the #FreeMVC2 movement is getting a lot of attention on social media. It’s hard to say if there was an impact, but it was a – the feeling was mutual. We felt like we really wanted to re-release these games. We know how much everyone else would love to see these games become a reality. So, yeah, it’s something we’ve wanted to do for a long time.
Do you have a favorite game in the series?
Matsumoto: Yes. I think Microcontroller 2 Probably my favorite game, but punisher Also great. I hope many people will come and see it.
What can newcomers expect from this series? Or maybe a better way to put it is, what would you tell someone new to the series who hasn’t played the series yet?
Matsumoto: From my perspective, I feel like the characters are some of the highlights of the game. Even though they are games launched decades ago, they still look and act very appealing. I’m also a big fan of music and game sounds. So that’s something I definitely want new people to notice.
Many of these games have very iconic soundtracks. Do you have a favorite song from any of these games?
Matsumoto: I think Microcontroller 2 The soundtrack is probably the most iconic.
What about returning fans? Will this compilation bring any new surprises to returning fans?
Matsumoto: The online matchmaking and network codes themselves will be the same as those from Capcom Fighting Collectionwe are very happy about it. The response to netcode has been fantastic. So we want people to look forward to playing these games online with their friends. Training mode is another new feature for these games. We also have hit box display. This is great for more competitive players or players who are new to the series and want to get better and learn how to play against others. So these will be great new features for a variety of players.
What do you think is the biggest advantage of porting all these games as a collection, as a unit?
Matsumoto: I think one of the nice things about this collection is that there are a ton of games included, but more than that, you can choose between the Japanese and Spanish versions of each game and play them online – either version can be played online. Therefore, the Japanese version of a particular title may have something unique that the Western version may not. So for those who have only played classic games at their local arcade, there may be something to discover. So, yes, we want everyone to try both versions of each game.
do you want to see Marvel VS Capcom 2 At EVO next year?
Matsumoto: This is definitely one of the things we really want to see, which is why I feel like now is the perfect time so we can see this type of event at future EVO or other competitive scenes.
This is really cool. Is this your first EVO?
Matsumoto: Maybe the 10th or so?
Oh wow.

You go to an arcade; you see people just randomly playing Microcontroller 2 In the cupboard. I understand that there is a strong passion for this series, which is one of the big reasons why I feel like I really want to re-release these games.
This is really cool. It sounds like you know there’s a very strong need here in the U.S. Microcontroller 2 Come out again. Is there similar enthusiasm in Japan?
Matsumoto: So, the whole nostalgia factor of people, you know, right Microcontroller 2 Those games may be stronger in the United States, but over the past decade or so, the Marvel IP has become more popular in Japan through the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the movies and all the cartoons. As a result, Japanese people are becoming more familiar with the characters and content. So now they’re more interested in seeing these Marvel vs Capcom game. Matsumoto: They are all great. you check all [laughs].
Switch gears a bit. So once again our registrations on EVO are breaking records, especially for street fighter. As a producer, how did you feel watching this film?

Because of all the excitement, more people became interested. “Maybe I can try to compete in EVO, maybe I’ll take it Street Fighter 6maybe I’ll try to compete in another non-EVO tournament! The community is getting bigger and bigger and, yes, has a lot of hope for the future.

Matsumoto: It’s not just me, I feel like a lot of people are really excited about this project SNK Guest characters Terry and Mai. They’re still in development right now and will be available later, but they look great and we hope everyone else is excited to try them.
Can I ask what led to the decision to include it? SNK figure?
Matsumoto: so SNK is another Western-Japanese video game company that Capcom also has a relationship with. We have been negotiating for many years. In fact, once EVO opened up again after COVID-19, we decided to collaborate with some illustrators SNK Have each illustrator draw characters from each other’s IP. One thing led to another. Finally, we were able to include some SNK characters in Street Fighter 6.
So, these illustrations, that’s what we get SNK figure?
Matsumoto: It was more like, you know, talking to each other and trying to figure out, “Well, what can we do in the short term? What can we do in the long term?” So we decided to start with illustrations first and then go from there. More discussion. Maybe we could incorporate real characters into the game? It’s just that our relationship has been growing, and through communication, we’ve discussed what we can do during this time. So it’s not the illustration itself that leads to the character. Nonetheless, it was this communication, this collaboration that grew and developed into what we have now.
Of course, there is a new one SNK Game coming soon – new werewolf. Does this mean we can hope to see street fighter Are there any characters in it?
Matsumoto: Conversation occurs, which is what we want to happen. But it’s just a matter of when we can do it and if that’s the thing SNK Can be implemented in the future. So, we’ll see.
