Marvel only has one movie in 2024, “Deadpool and Wolverine,” but the Marvel Cinematic Universe will return in 2025 and beyond. The next major film in the series is Avengers: Doomsday. At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel revealed the film’s title and several other key bits of information, including the biggest news: Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the Marvel Universe.
But the actor won’t be returning to play Tony Stark/Iron Man, as some believe. Instead, the Oscar winner will play villain Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. We also learned that Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Joe and Anthony Russo will be returning to direct Doomsday and its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars .
As many of you may recall, Marvel originally planned to call the film Avengers: Reign of Kang, starring Jonathan Majors as the villain. But after Majors’ legal troubles, Marvel took a big turn, and with it came the apocalypse.
