That’s true of the Genesis…and that’s true of almost every platform these days, and the Nintendo Switch is no exception. In fact, Sega’s 16-bit console offered a surprisingly wide variety of games, including some licensed and lesser-known games you wouldn’t expect. I decided to dig into this in our usual way and see what good stuff I could find. Note that I’m not including the Nintendo Switch Online Genesis app as that would make things too easy. However, I include the compilation. To be fair to each game there is only one game, I consider SEGA AGES as a compilation with all the rules applied. Anyway, here we have ten of our favorites, in no particular order, and as usual, we’ve added five more we’d like to see. Let’s get super!
Aladdin – Collection of Disney Classic Games ($29.49)
One of the best-selling Ultima games of all time, Aladdin Its magic is as stunning as the elves’ visuals. This platformer was made by many people who went on to create it later earthworm jim, it shows. You don’t even have to decide which 16-bit to use Aladdin You’ll prefer it because its collection also includes Super NES games. As far as this era of gaming is concerned, it’s still something to watch.
SEGA AGES Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ($7.99)
A list like this wouldn’t be complete without the most famous hedgehog in the world, and I decided to choose Sega Era version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to represent him. Of course, you can Genesis Classic collection, or the Nintendo Switch Online app, or sonic origins. But I think this feature is the best and has the most interesting extras. No matter which route you choose, this is a Genesis/Mega Drive game you should play if you haven’t already.
Gaiares($15.00)
The SEGA Genesis hosted a slew of excellent shooters, giving the genre a clear and considerable advantage over the Super NES. Gaiares is a relatively early release, but don’t let that mean it isn’t one of the best. Beautiful graphics, great music, and cool mechanics that allow you to borrow power from your enemies by throwing spaceship satellites at them. Telenet has done some great work on the platform and this is a great introduction to the products.
Rocket Knight Adventures – Rocket Knight Adventures Reignited ($29.99)
Konami was a bit late to the SEGA platform, and in many cases it feels like seconds from a game made on the Super NES. Rocket Knight Adventures is one of the bigger exceptions. A completely original IP first launched on the SEGA platform, Rocket Knight Adventures Shows that Konami can make Genesis sing as well as other platforms. It’s an extremely charming yet challenging action game that’s well worth purchasing for this collection.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Super Stone Heist – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Series ($39.99)
Of course, it would be great if Ultima could see something completely original TMNT Beat ‘Em is unique, but this wonderful mashup of hit styles from two arcade games and a third NES game is fun in its own right. Indeed, some people like this game best TMNT Brawler. I’m not sure I’d go that far, but I think this is a game worthy of the series and one of the best of its kind on the SEGA Genesis. Hey, this series does show up a lot on these lists!
Mega Turrican – Turrican Flashback ($29.99)
although Turican Probably the most well-known on home computers, the console port is usually a pretty good one too. giant salamander is a fascinating case because it was the basis for the Amiga Turican 3. It’s more linear than some of its predecessors, but great action and interesting mechanics make this game a lot of fun. I suspect many North Americans in particular may have missed this game. If this is you, buy this set and start looking into some of the best homegrown run-and-gun guns in Europe.
Shining Force 2 – Sega Genesis Classic ($29.99)
this Sega Genesis Classic Collection on Switch has some input lag, making it a less than ideal way to play action games. However, for RPG games, this isn’t that big of an issue. That’s a good thing, because this list could use some more food for thought. when i love Phantasy Star IV Till death do us part, I decided to nod Shining Force 2. It builds on the already excellent first game to create one of the best turn-based strategy RPGs ever made. Hey, since you bought this collection for this game, you might as well play some other cool RPGs.
Glalancer ($6.99)
The side-scrolling shooter wasn’t localized at the time, so it holds a special “forbidden fruit” status among die-hard fans of the console. . well-done.
Castlevania: Bloodlines – Castlevania Anniversary Collection ($19.99)
I’m trying not to let Konami and Capcom dominate these lists too much, but what can you do? They make great games and have many great collectibles on modern platforms. Castlevania: Bloodlinesfound in Castlevania Anniversary Collection, marking the series’ debut on SEGA hardware, and it’s very stylish. Great hardware-driven visuals, a stunning soundtrack, responsive gameplay, a tough but fair difficulty curve, and two distinct characters highlight this cool action game. Good whipping!
Monster World IV – Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection ($49.99)
this monster world Series brings wonder boy from the future mario A true competitor to the vanguard of action-adventure, it all culminates in this game. Despite the series’ title, there’s nothing magical about it boys here. A brave girl named Asha takes on the role of hero, and the result is a beautiful, highly entertaining adventure that’s relatively mild in difficulty but feels very rewarding upon completion. This collection is relatively expensive for these things, but you’re not only getting this game, but a ton of other fun games as well.
Plus… 5 Genesis/Mega Drive games we’d like to see on Switch
Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
Let’s start with a modestly possible request. Before Sonic entered the Ultima scene, the system’s king of platformers was none other than Mickey Mouse. Castle of Illusions Sure, it doesn’t move as fast as some SEGA platformers, but it makes up for that with clever and well-designed levels. The mechanics are as simple as possible, but the game never feels like it’s struggling to find ideas to apply them. Disney, Sega, let’s work together.
National Hockey League ’94
Now that’s slightly less likely. obviously National Hockey League 94 Since all players are no longer part of the NHLPA license, this will not happen. But I’m willing to settle for a game edited with fake player names, because the Switch desperately needs a good hockey game, and there’s nothing greater than this. I’m not yet yelling at Electronic Arts for caring more about its retro catalog, but I’ll drop a pin here. National Hockey League 94please.
Atomic runner
Back to the entirely possible option, Data East Atomic runner is an exciting action game where you play as an autonomous atomic-powered destroyer. There’s really no other game on consoles that plays like this, and while its diminutive protagonist might make you underestimate this game, I guarantee the action is as fiery as you’d find on a SEGA 16-bit machine. Paon now owns the rights to the game, and it would be great to see this game, as well as Data East’s other games, come to Switch at some point.
Road Crash II
I said my interest in Electronic Arts wasn’t over yet, and this is what I meant. Unlike many other EA games on consoles, if the company wants to Road Crash II Out again. It’s a hallmark of the system, but it’s a shame it’s not more widely used. It boggles my mind that Electronic Arts almost never gets into the retro game re-release world, as it’s easily one of the biggest names in the 16-bit era and has a lot to offer. Road Crash IIand indeed the entire road rash series, is ripe for a comeback, and I would certainly be excited if the Switch could be a part of it.
shadowrun
Developed by BlueSky Software, published by SEGA, licensed by FASA. Is this possible? I hope so! But I guess since this is a wish list, it doesn’t really need to be realistic, does it? Anyway, shadowrun It’s a very cool role-playing game that has its own characteristics and works really well. It’s a pretty open-ended thing, allowing you to carve your own path in the cyberpunk world. You have one goal: to avenge your brother’s death. How you proceed is up to you, with the storyline branching out into three distinct branches based on your actions. this shadowrun The trilogy we already have on Switch has some story ties to the game, which makes launching the game on the platform even more enticing.
That’s the list, friends. Are there any Genesis games on Switch that you like? Is there anything you want to see? Feel free to sound off in the comments and let us know what you think! It’s always interesting to hear other people’s opinions on things like this. As always, thank you for reading!
