Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: Robert Downey Jr., who spent a decade playing Iron Man and becoming the face of the Marvel Universe, is returning to play Doctor Doom. Combine this news with Doom’s appearance on the leaked roadmap, and it makes sense that he would be a key antagonist in the next season.
But I’m curious if we can actually get a Doctor Doom skin with Downey Jr.’s likeness. Marvel has never done this with its skins before – the Tom Hardy/Venom, Tom Holland/Spider-Man and Zendaya/MJ skins are all legitimately from Sony movies, but Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe movies None of the characters resemble the actors. But there are some factors to consider.
First: Fortress Heroes already has a Doctor Doom skin from the previous Marvel-centric battle pass in Chapter 2 Season 4. The Doctor has to be significantly different from the old one – look at the new Deadpool and Wolverine skins, for example. Having a new version of Doom with a celebrity likeness would do the trick, much like the previously mentioned Tom Holland Spider-Man skin.
Secondly: Skins with Actor’s Licenses often seem to have a limited shelf life – all of these Sony Marvel skins have been out of store rotation for a while, and the Eddie Brock skin hasn’t been available since late 2021. Such skins require multiple licenses, and the cost of repeatedly renewing these licenses may be prohibitive. Putting them on the battle pass, which due to its inherent exclusivity cannot be updated anyway, would be a potential solution.
Third: There have been several Battle Pass skins based on real-life likenesses, but none since Khaby Lame in Season 4 Chapter 4. The spike comes after a tough summer season for players.
But this is all just speculation and maybe a little bit of my hopes and dreams seeping into it.
Considering how divisive season three was, I thought we’d see a simpler season next time. But I could be totally wrong, because last season Marvel gave us all kinds of wild mythical items based on Marvel superpowers. According to Hypex, one such myth is a new version of Wolverine’s claws. In the last Marvel season, every Battle Pass skin had an accompanying battle royale mythology. Under normal circumstances, I think this would happen again, but given the current situation, Epic might rein it in a bit.
