Astro Bot is getting its own game in September, but if you’re not sure whether to buy it, there’s some new gameplay that might help you.
Back in May, PlayStation finally released the long-rumored sequel to Astro Bot , showing off the game’s vast expansion in platforming action. There were some previews of the game last month, and overall it was quite good, and now it seems that the demo that the media got their hands on is currently available for trial at ChinaJoy 2024. It’s a boss battle with the giant octopus monster. In this photo, Astro picks up some boxing gloves, allowing it to extend its fists to fight enemies and swing them through huge gaps.

The second is a really challenging space level that just happens to have cameos from Jack and Daxter, who you have to save. Finally there’s another difficult-looking level involving some tricky platforming, in which you need to rescue the player character from Journey. Obviously this seems to be a consistent thing throughout the game, and considering there are over 150 classic PlayStation characters in the game, it looks like you’ll be faced with a lot of difficult levels (although I think some of them are just cameos).

Overall, it does look pretty good, which is reassuring because the PS5’s built-in demo of Astro’s Playroom is a lot of fun. That one was mostly just to show off new PS5 features like haptic feedback and triggers, but the full sequel will expand to over 80 levels. If the gameplay meets your intentions, you’ll be able to get it on PS5 later this year on September 6.
