Over the past 20 years, Mega 64 Become part of the San Diego Comic-Con community. They’ve always had a booth at Comic Mecca, the same place every year. With more than 650,000 subscribers, the YouTube group has cemented its place in pop culture in its own way. Whether it’s their podcasts, short films, video game skits, and most importantly their original works Mega 64 As it turns out, the impact these four friends have had on the Internet, for better or worse, is huge.
Not surprisingly, this year they managed to secure room 6DE for their group and almost filled the entire space. Mega 64 Fans are part of a niche group who are well aware of the chaos to come. With the crowd’s eerie silence and palpable anticipation, it was no surprise that cheers erupted the moment the message appeared on the big screen. Mega 64 logo, which soon turned into a short video.
It was an ad for the Apple Vision Pro, but it quickly turned into some of the silliest videos on the web. The “Hey man, can I have some change” video was Michael Meyers’ breakdance, which quickly turned into some of the most famous “body damage” videos of the 2000s. The frowns on the audience’s faces quickly turned into laughter as one of the Mega64 Old videos, American Sign Language awareness, started playing on the screen. For context it is Mega 64 To DJ Snake’s “Turn Down for What” and the sound of sirens, they poured ice water over themselves over and over again.
The audience felt at home.
At the end of the film, the music started blaring, the entire crew started running out, and the audience almost jumped out of their chairs. Rocco Bote, Sean Chatfield, Derek Acostaand Garrett Hunter They’re back at Comic-Con with a bang.
Sean was running kind of like he was going to the U.S. Olympics in Olympic gear. Rocco was wearing a KFC tracksuit and an Apple Vision Pro (I don’t know how to make that up), and Derrick and Shawn weren’t the weirdest people in the room this time either.
They premiered their new “Cosplayerz: Absolute Disgrace” video, a collection of footage from SDCC’23 and their own cosplays, which quickly turned into a sandwich shot of trash footage that lasted 29 seconds. The name later evolved into the name of the downtown Karl Strauss restaurant that sponsored their performances.
Of course, in Mega64 style, this isn’t enough. They needed to make sure everyone knew this, so they made a video to celebrate their sponsor, which resulted in the chat “disappearing” on the streets of downtown San Diego as he was separated from the group in the concrete jungle.
The next words that appear on the screen are enough to let fans of their show know that the next 30 minutes will be something they won’t forget. Deadpool vs Wolverine Part 2 flashed across the screen. For their last bit, they were willing to go further than any previous show.
Acosta made this idea clear: “We have some clips here that give you an exclusive preview of the video we are working on and we want to involve all of you in this video.”
The crowd cheers, though those cheers quickly turn to boos as Rocko shows off their new footage in the clip, much like Kevin Feige shows off Marvel’s next big event. Donning a dad hat and bomber jacket, Rocco transforms into a mainstream director, and all the audience has to do is hate everything they’re shown.
The next 20 minutes of the show were truly a hate fest. Boos would erupt from the crowd, and Rocco would pretend to be a director fighting for his life in front of a crowd of angry fans. Occasionally saying “You suck!” or “I was just waiting for this?!” bursts out with some less pleasant language. The worst is “Madame web is better than this!”
Acosta and Chatfield will later appear in Wolverine and Deadpool costumes They were enthusiastic at first, but their confidence immediately collapsed when they were booed off the stage. The smile on the face of Johnny Weiss, their lead film editor and cinematographer, never wavered.
Finally, the group discussed the QnA section, which was a memorable one. Most of the time, these segments tend to be more satirical than others. However, they have been asked some questions for a long time and they have given some real answers. When asked to have kind words to say about their full-time player, Kevin Rocco was the first to speak up.
“Well, the thing I love most about Kevin is he’s a real go-getter guy,” Rocco said. “When it came to anything, he would make sure that it was seen through to the end, even the things that you forgot, you know, in the middle of the night you’d get a message saying don’t forget 100 markers or, or a plastic fork or something. Of, you know, he will think of everything and make sure it’s not forgotten. Without him we wouldn’t be here.”
Or even when asked about a new show, they’ll make a video of it “in five minutes.” They all agreed it was Fraser.
One fan’s question stood out the most, when asked “You’ve been playing this game for the past 20 years and have witnessed the rise and fall of empires, not to mention the changes that have occurred during that time. Not just what you know, but what How does it feel to be here after all this?”
Chatfield took control of the microphone this time, “Honestly, I’m forever grateful and that’s all thanks to all of you. You guys watched and came to our booth, you all gave us a gift. In It’s a job where we get to see our best friends every day, where we can hang up the phone, do whatever we want, and even get booed at the con if we want, and the audience laughs with him. , “I’m so grateful to you.”
Acosta continued to keep Chatfield honest: “Yeah, I think the coolest part that you might not know after doing this for 20 years is that if you’re not in our shoes, you can be on camera Seeing us grow, we get to see you grow… because we’ve built so much goodwill with our fan base, we now have a lot of opportunities for you to be successful in your own careers. And they have never forgotten us.”
Acosta ended it all in the best way, “I feel like the best is yet to come.”
