Lycoris recoilOne of the most popular anime original series of 2022 is getting a miniseries to tide you over while you wait for season two.
Most of the time, non-manga anime adaptations don’t end up being as popular as the series, but in 2022, Lycoris Recoil defied the odds. It’s so good that even Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima couldn’t help but rave about it, and he even got a deal with Drive director Nicholas Winding Refn ( He’s also apparently the model for Hartman’s face in Death Stranding) matching shirt. If you’re reading this, Kojima – or if you’re just a fan of anime – I have some good news! The official Japanese Twitter account of Lycoris Recoil announced yesterday that a six-episode miniseries based on the daily lives of Chisato, Takina and others is about to be produced.

“Lycoris Recoil” director Shingo Adachi will oversee the six episodes, with a different person taking on directing and storyboard duties for each episode. Original character designer Imigimuru is also responsible for some scripts. Beyond that, there are no further details, although a sneak peek was shown in the tweet, which you can see above.

This is obviously great news for fans of the series, and it’s nice to know there’s something worth watching while waiting for season two. Season 2 was announced last February, but details about its progress have been sparse since then. For those unfamiliar with the series, it tells the story of a secret government organization called the “Lycoris” made up of entirely young orphan girls who assassinate criminals and terrorists before they can commit their crimes while masquerading as high school students. It’s definitely a far-fetched concept to some, but with another season and this miniseries on the way, it’s clear that it resonates with enough people to make it worth their while.
