Earlier today we attended a Star Wars panel, and while there were fairly few announcements about the Black Series, I attended at least a few. We have press photos and booth photos here, you can take a look if you are interested.
First announced is the character they showed off earlier in the show, Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh. Vernestra was a character in the Republic novels who made the jump to live-action in the TV show acolyte. In the books and show, her saber has a unique whip function, so it’s a bit disappointing not to see it here.
Next up is Bazil, the alien tracker from The Acolyte. He’s a fun guy to design, and overall I’m excited to see more aliens added to the mix. He takes bookings on July 27th.
They also showed a new Cassian, but I’m not 100% sure where he came from because I can’t for the life of me understand what the panelists thought of this Cassian. They mentioned how Andor Season 2 will lead directly into Rogue One, because it looks to me like the jacket he wore on the Ring of Cavlin at the beginning of Rogue One, and maybe he’ll be in Andor as well How many seasons did you wear it? There is no pre-order date yet.
Also from Andor was a psychopathic fascist who they actually had me rooting for in some way, Dedra Meero. The resemblance on this one is so good I could spot her from a mile away.
From Ahsoka, we see another Ahsoka, this time wearing a sleek new white outfit. Not very exciting, but looks good. Ahsoka will be available for pre-order on July 27th.
I’m a little cold on army building, but I could pick a few of Moff Gideon’s Imperial armored commandos from The Mandalorian Season 3 to fight for Mando. I love the sheen of this guy’s armor. This one will also be available for pre-order on 7/27.
Finally, the Deluxe IG-12 was probably my favorite display of the show. They recognized in the group that the previous number was too small and they needed to re-equip him, and they did a great job designing him so that Grogu could drive him around. The two Babu-frik’s are a nice addition to the “baby don’t squeeze!” He does look taller than the other figures in the booth, so I hope they eventually redo IG-88 and IG-11. This model will be available for pre-order on July 27th.
Showcases in the Black Series pipeline include the Deluxe Kael’Naka, Moff Gideon Armor, Moff Gideon’s Praetorian Guard, Anakin and Rex in Ahsoka’s flashback scenes, Command in Episode III Guan Bakara, Battle Droid Commando, and Prince Xizor in Shadow of the Empire. Overall, this isn’t a very exciting panel, and it once again emphasizes how much I’d like to see more aliens from OT in this line, especially the guys in the bar or Jabba’s thugs.
