Hello, dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade roundup for July 24, 2024. I have a comment Apex Thief for you, and then we’ll take a deep dive into the day’s new releases. To be sure, they have a specific theme. Finally, today’s list of new sales is quite large. NIS America and Koei Tecmo have some really good deals right now. We already have that, plus a list of sales that are due that day. Let’s start the game!
Comments and mini views
Epyx Thief($7.99)
Oh hey hey, this is rogue. You know, known for being “roguelike”. rogue, you can tell it doesn’t look like a bunch of ASCII letters and symbols. This is… I guessed wrong once, and I’m not entirely confident now, but I’m reasonably sure this is the Amiga version of the game. It has a nicer look, depending on one’s love of markings and such, but at its core it’s the same old beast that got many of us into trouble in the past. Maybe even recently for some of us.
The big problem here is that this game is very much designed for a keyboard, and while the Switch has a fair amount of buttons, there aren’t enough for the Amiga version. rogue. While the people handling this Switch version, Pixel Games UK, could have taken the simple approach and relied on the software keyboard, they’ve implemented a very clever menu ring to access multiple actions. Other operations can be performed by pressing a combination of buttons. In some cases, you have to pull up the software keyboard, but these are very rare. This takes some getting used to, but once you get used to it, it works pretty well.
Play an earlier version rogue like Apex Thief Really shows how ahead of its time this game was. The number of games that remain fully engaging in this era of computing is relatively small. If you love roguelikes but somehow haven’t had the chance to play one, this is a great way to do it. You even get a game manual with tons of information and a selection of objective achievements to choose from. Those who want a more authentic experience can even turn off the ability to use save states.
See, we’re not hurt by this type of game on Switch. That being said, I think there is a certain purity to the original design that is worth experiencing for any roguelike and roguelite fan. If you want to challenge the classic test of nerves and wits, this Switch version Apex Thief is a very good method. Some effort has been put into making the game work in interfaces outside of what it was designed for, and I really appreciate the extras like the manual and achievements.

Super Woden GP II ($12.99)
The supremely fun top-down racing game returns in this cool sequel, featuring over 180 cars, plenty of tracks, and support for up to four players via local split-screen multiplayer. The first game was a lot of fun, and I have no doubt that this one will provide just as good a time.
F1 Manager 2024 ($34.99)
Do you like racing, but not driving? Then this might be for you. As the title suggests, you are the manager of an F1 team. You’ll deal with a variety of things, from developing talent, managing game strategy, and more. Personally, I’ve never been able to get along well with this kind of thing, but I know a lot of people who can get lost in this kind of thing for weeks on end. It could be you! If so, take a closer look at this.
Chrysolite ($14.99)
This has nothing to do with racing. Friends, this is called reverse programming. You’re a young thief exploring the ruins of a kingdom, wouldn’t you know? This damn place is full of dangerous creatures! This was the inspiration for Soulsborne, and I think the combat… isn’t exactly the fancy meal here. But I have a hunch that there must be something to this. I’ll have to investigate further.
sales volume
(North American e-store, US prices)
One thing I would note about today’s sales is that you should check out the DLC in Koei Tecmo and NIS America’s offerings, as some rarer deals can be found there than those found in the base game. Now is a good time to stock up on role-playing games to at least get you through August. Outbox, on the other hand, seems to lean more towards puzzle games. Well, I guess you’ll be scanning both lists anyway. I’ll just let you go.

That’s all for today, friends. We’ll be back tomorrow with a big list of Thursday’s new launches, plus the day’s sales and key news. The day went completely off the rails for me and I accomplished about a quarter of what I wanted to accomplish. This really wasn’t my week. Oh well! I hope you all had a great day on Wednesday, and as always, thank you for reading!
