Conservative politician, podcaster, media personality and provocateur Matt Walsh is on a mission to answer a complex question in an upcoming documentary Am I a racist?
Described as a “social experiment” and directed by Justin Folk, the film is co-produced by The Telegraph and Digital Astronaut and will mark the company’s first theatrical launch of an SDG-produced Releasing distributes in-house produced films.
To introduce the doctor, The Daily Telegraph released a trailer on Tuesday showing Walsh in action as he attends anti-racism seminars, attends private intellectual dinners and chats about the fiery topic. Experts sit down with ordinary Americans, all while playing “a bumbling, enthusiastic DEI intern,” according to The Daily Telegraph. Author Robin DiAngelo is one such expert who writes White fragility: Why it’s so hard for white people to talk about racism.
“Growing up in the ’90s, you never thought about race. Of course, you noticed it, but it never seemed that important — at least not to me,” Walsh says in a voiceover at the beginning of the trailer . Then Walsh spoke to a woman who reminded him that being a white, straight, cisgender man meant he was at the top of the pack. He then asked a group of people: “Am I a racist?”
In search of answers, Walsh began his undercover mission. “If I’m going to solve this problem, I need to go deeper undercover. If I want to be an ally, I need to look like an ally.” Walsh then put on a tweed blazer, glasses, and a ponytail The wig makes him look preppy.
Am I a racist? Walsh and Falk have written a second documentary for The Daily Telegraph after working together on What is a woman? Content released in 2022 addresses “changing concepts of sex and gender in the digital age, particularly the trans rights movement, anti-trans bias, and what it means to be a woman.” Am I a racist? Produced by Charlotte Rowland, Brian Hoffman, Walsh and Falk. Sean Hampton and Benyam Capel serve as co-producers, with Dallas Sonnier, Jeremy Bolin, Caleb Robinson and Ben Shapiro serving as executive producers.
“I can’t think of a better film for its first theatrical release than The Daily Telegraph Am I a racist?“Daily Telegraph” co-chief executive Bolin said. “What is a woman? has changed the national conversation about radical gender theory, effectively addressing the issue, and DEI is the next pillar of the woke virus that is about to be overturned. DEI culture is one of the most toxic plagues on American life, as Matt Walsh and Justin Falk deftly and hilariously expose in this film.
The film is expected to be released on September 13.
