Xiaomi has announced two new foldable phones aimed at the Chinese market. The upgraded Mix Fold 4 introduced waterproofing for the first time, while the Mix Flip is the company’s first foldable flip phone with a 4.01-inch covered screen and almost no bezels around it.
Xiaomi claims that the new Mix Flip has the largest external display in a clamshell foldable smartphone. At 4.01 inches, it’s only slightly larger than the Motorola Razr Plus 2024’s 4-inch screen, but much larger than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6’s 3.4-inch external screen.
The Mix Flip’s 120Hz protected screen includes its own earphones and microphone, so you can use your phone to make calls without having to turn it on. However, despite the Mix Flip’s size, a large portion of its external screen is taken up by a pair of Leica-branded cameras. 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization and 50MP telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom. Opening the Mix Flip reveals a 6.86-inch folding screen with the same refresh rate.
The Mix Flip is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which can be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The 4,780mAh battery supports 67W fast charging via a USB-C cable, but Xiaomi has not revealed whether wireless charging is included.
The Mix Fold 4 has similar internals, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. Like earlier versions of the Google Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, the new Mix Fold 4 finally gets an IPX8 rating, which means it’s protected against full submersion in water, but it’s still not dustproof.
The slightly larger 5,100mAh battery in the Mix Fold 4 can be charged wirelessly at 50W, or with 67W fast charging via a USB-C cable. The foldable also features the same hinge durability as last year’s model, with a lifespan of up to 500,000 uses based on lab testing.
Mix Fold 4 is 9.47mm thick when closed and 4.59mm when open. This is thinner than both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Pixel Fold. The 226-gram Mix Fold 4 is now also 29 grams lighter than last year’s Mix Fold 3, thanks to a redesigned hinge that’s now 34 percent narrower and 16 percent lighter.
A smaller internal 120Hz display further reduces weight. It now measures 7.98 inches, but the resolution has been bumped up to 2488 x 2224 pixels, while the size of the external 1080P overlay display remains the same at 6.56 inches.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is equipped with four Leica-branded cameras on the back. It inherits the 50-megapixel main camera and 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens from the previous model, but now offers an improved 50-megapixel telephoto camera with two times optical zoom for portrait photography, as well as a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with five times optical zoom. 10-megapixel periscope camera.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 starts at 8,999 yen (approximately $1,237) for the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, or 10,999 yen (approximately $1,512) with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, and comes in black, white or blue. Available in white, purple, or black, the Mix Flip starts at 5,999 yen (about $825) with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, but with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the price jumps to 7,299 yen (about $1,004 Dollar).
As with Xiaomi’s previous foldable phones, there’s no word yet on whether these two new models will be released globally outside of China.
