Google is increasing the minimum quality requirements for Android apps and will soon remove apps from the Play Store that do not meet expectations. According to the company’s latest spam policy update, the Play Store will no longer allow apps that display “limited functionality and content” (such as text-only apps, single-wallpaper apps, or those that don’t actually do anything at all) Effective August 31st.
These restrictions are combined with existing restrictions to prohibit corrupted applications that become unresponsive, fail to install, crash, or otherwise behave erratically. Google said it added additional requirements to “ensure apps meet the Play Catalog’s elevated standards and attract users with premium features.”
Google has previously made efforts to better police the apps hosted on its Play Store. as pointed out Android AuthorityIn 2023, as many as 2.28 million apps were blocked for violating policies and endangering user security. Google also said it banned 333,000 “bad” Google Play accounts that same year due to repeated serious policy violations and concerns about fraud and malware.
