Movie review:
- John Chad: Murnau, did I kill your people? I do not remember.
- FW Murnau (John Malkovich) is filming Nosferatu (1922), but is reclusive star Max Schreck (Willem Dafoe) taking his vampire role too seriously?
- In some ways, it’s a curator’s egg of a film. This will definitely help if you’re a fan of old classic films and have some familiarity with the source material at the heart of the films. The script is based on a mythical concept, the star of the film might actually be a real vampire, and the entire production is executed with superb skill (Dafoe deservedly received an Oscar nomination, as did makeup artist Ann Buchanan and Amber ·Sibley too). But ultimately it failed and proved to not live up to its extremely interesting premise. Still, the fun and all-around technical credits keep people fully engaged. 6/10
