We just got the latest update from Larian on the next big update for Baldur’s Gate 3 (Patch 7), which will be released in September. It looks like things are still going well, with the developer already revealing more of what it will include or promote, and announcing that PC players can now sign up for a chance to test the game through a closed beta.

Thanks to previous community updates, we already knew that the patch would bring a bunch of extra evil endings as well as the official modding tools that people have been waiting for.

If you think this means Larian has nothing left to talk about and laugh about in Community Update 28, you’re sadly mistaken. Let’s start with what you can do right now, eh?

“We mentioned in Community Update 26 that we were introducing additional internal playtesting, but we also want to test Patch 7 at scale using a variety of different systems and save games – that’s where we need your help,” Ryan wrote, outlining that players on Steam can now register through BG3’s store page for a chance to participate in the closed beta, which will begin on July 22.

Now, onto the teasing stage. These feature the new “Dynamic Split Screen Mode,” which allows co-op players to merge their monitors together via a button in the HUD and game settings when they’re close enough. Meanwhile, Honor Mode becomes more difficult thanks to some additional legendary moves and spells from enemies like Malus Thorm and Dror Ragzlin. A series of bug fixes for Dark Impulse and Origins characters are also in the works, to go with the former’s new ending, as well as some improvements to the all-important party banter.

In a community update, Larian also asked some of the modders involved in the tool’s closed alpha to discuss their latest progress, with several modders working on tinkering with colors such as Dragonborn Scales.

“Patch 7 will not be the final update for Baldur’s Gate 3,” the studio wrote at the end of the update. “We still have some preparation work to do – including many community-requested features, such as cross-platform play and the ability to capture and Capture Photo Mode. We’re working on a range of other enhancements, from gameplay tweaks and quality-of-life improvements to bug fixes and performance optimizations.

If you’d like to read more BG3-related content while you wait to find out if it’s entered the closed beta, why not read our recent interview with a modder who added an entire roguelike mode to the game, specifically Consider us asking what they think these official tools can do for the game’s modding scene.
