Sebastian Stan’s Edward learns to be careful what he wishes for in trailer a different person.
Edward (Stan) suffers from facial neurofibromatosis and believes his deformity hinders his self-confidence. He keeps to himself, and his charming new neighbor Ingrid (Renate Reinswey) becomes one of his only confidantes. His other neighbor Ollie (Billy Griffith) offers words of encouragement (via Lady Gaga’s interpretation): “All unhappiness in life comes from not accepting the status quo.”
When the opportunity arises to test an experimental drug that could “cure” Edward, he decides to give it a try. Life as a handsome man has its perks. Now he is welcomed in the office rather than ignored. “Look at this piece of man candy,” exclaims his co-worker Nick (Owen Kline), holding a cutout of Edward.
While Edward is out drinking with colleagues, Edward’s newfound confidence begins to wane when he is approached by Oswald (Adam Pearson), a charismatic man who also suffers from congenital neurofibromatosis. Everyone wants to know about Oswald—even Ingrid, much to Edward’s chagrin.
“I have a feeling I’ve screwed things up for you,” Oswald told Edward. That seems like an understatement, as at one point Edward grabs Oswald’s face and screams “Take your face off!” while others try to end the physical altercation.
The official synopsis reads: “Aspiring actor Edward undergoes radical medical surgery to completely change his appearance. But his new dream face soon turns into a nightmare as he becomes obsessed with regaining what he has lost. .
