During character creation, you must choose a class from one of the three main roles (Tank, Healer, and DPS). While this is a more influential choice than your deity, don’t worry too much if you find yourself doubting your choice. When you upgrade your starting career to level 30 and get far enough in the main quest, you’ll earn a soul crystal (or job stone), which essentially renders the career irrelevant. You can progress into new professions by acquiring weapons related to the different professions you have.
Unlike other MMOs, final fantasy 14 Allows upgrading multiple jobs (career specializations) and encourages it. While your initial choice should take precedence, you’ll likely find that you’re too high-leveled for the main mission, at which point there’s no harm in switching to a new job. Not only does it help mix up gameplay, but if a job is lower level than your highest level job, it will accrue XP faster. It’s a win-win!
One thing to keep in mind when choosing a class, however, is that your choice will determine which city you spawn in first. This can make things tricky if you want to start from scratch with friends. However, you should choose the class that needs you the most (we’ll talk about what to do if you and your friends are in different starting cities later).
