The animated adaptation of the classic series, The Terminator, has finally released its first trailer, and yes, Judgment Day is still coming.
The upcoming Terminator animated version has been in the works for several years, and earlier this year, Netflix finally confirmed that the show will be released on August 29th, which happens to be the date of Judgment Day in the original film. Now, Netflix has provided the first trailer for The Terminator , which you can check out below. Not only that, the show also announced the cast, including Timothy Olyphant (“The Wire”, “The Mandalorian”), Rosario Dawson (“Ahsoka”), Mizuno So Noah (“House of the Dragon,” “Ex Machina”), Andre Holland (“Moonlight”) and Ann Downey (“Moonlight”).
It looks like the series is mostly in good hands, as it’s produced by Production IG – the same studio behind the original Ghost in the Shell movie. What could be better than a studio that helps create some of the best science fiction ever written? The whole show looks about as bleak as you’d expect, after all this is the Terminator universe, which isn’t known for being the happiest of worlds, but the look of the animation at least offers something fresh in that regard.

While the show’s chronology is a bit historically confusing, it’s unclear how the show will fit into all of this. We do know that it tells the story of a woman named Eiko (voiced by Mizuno) who is tasked with stopping Skynet’s upcoming attack, and that Olyphant will play the entry’s Terminator, who of course will stop her . It was said that a “good” artificial intelligence was being developed in Tokyo in 1997, so who knows if the setting will change. Regardless, we’ll find out soon when the anime hits Netflix on August 29th!
