Emmy Awards Season 1® Riot Games’ award-winning series will be released on global home entertainment platforms in 2024
New York (July 9, 2024) – GKIDS, Academy Awards®– Award-winning producer and distributor of artist-driven, award-winning animation, announces partnership with Anime Ltd. and Plaion Pictures, Plain Archive, Shout! Factory and Sugoi to release Season 1 arcaneThe globally beloved and popular franchise from Riot Games will be available in international markets in 2024 on digital owned media and physical home media.
arcane It will be distributed as digital download and physical home entertainment in Europe, South Korea and Australia/New Zealand by Anime Ltd. & Plaion Pictures, Plain Archive and Sugoi respectively. It will be released in Latin America on the Shout! digital download platform. Factory will also be responsible for physical product distribution in North America together with GKIDS.
GKIDS previously announced at the Annecy International Film Festival earlier this month that it had acquired global (excluding China) video and digital rights to the first season of the internationally acclaimed series.
Fans can look forward to a full line-up of upcoming releases, from digital to premium versions, including a 4K version exclusive to the home entertainment version.
arcane The story is set in the universe of the popular video game League of Legends, produced by Riot Games and Fortiche Productions for Netflix. Co-created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, the series follows the origins of iconic League Champions Vi and Jinx as they become embroiled in a power struggle between the utopian city of Piltover and the oppressed underground city of Zaun.
The show premiered in November 2021 to rave reviews, winning widespread praise for its striking animation, emotionally complex characters, thrilling music and overall production quality. It has been praised by critics as one of the best video game adaptations of all time. The show went on to win four Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Animated Program, and nine Annie Awards, including Outstanding Mature Animated Television Broadcast Production.
