Since its inception in 1939, Marvel has published some of the most iconic series in American comic history, including Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and X-Men, and has established an unparalleled library of characters and stories that shape popular culture. For 45 years Fantagraphics has published the best comics and graphic novels that the media has to offer, including Love & Rockets, Eight Balls, and my favorite thing is Monsters. Now, the two publishing giants are working for the Lost Marvel combination, an ambitious series of hardcover versions that include Silver Masters before the comics including Neal Adams, John Buscema, Howard Chaykin, Stan Lee, Stan Lee, Jim Steranko, Barry Windsor-Smith and other masters of the age.
Fantagraphics will publish three hardcover books in this year’s Lost Marvel series, all of which are produced in collaboration with Marvel Comics and come with more releases in the coming years.

In April, Fantagraphics will publish The Lost Miracle No. 1: Tower of Shadows, collecting all nine issues of the series. In 1969, as its revolutionary superhero series had been well established, Marvel captured the supernatural, EC-style anthology series that had been banned since Comics Code in the 1950s. Tower of Shadows featured a staggering array of artists and writers, including Neal Adams, Jim Steranko, Barry Windsor-Smith, John Buscema, Gene Colan, Wally Wood, Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, John Romita, Johnny Craig, Marie Severin, Gerry Conway, and Bernie Wrightson, to name a few. These creators broke away from the convention of superhero adventures and brought their storytelling skills into a more quiet genre that created twisted suspense and sarcastic horror atmospheric gems, including Roy Thomas and Tom Palmer adaptation of HP Lovecraft’s “Pickman’s Model”

In July, Fantagraphics will publish “The Lost Miracle” No. 2: Howard Chaykin Vol. 1: Dominic Fortune, Monark Starstalker and Phantom Eagle. When Howard Chaykin broke into comics in the 1970s, there was nothing like him. His original characters Dominic Fortune and Monark Starstalker took the classic pulp heroes and ran them through a postmodern blender. This new volume collected Chaykin’s most exciting and popular works from 1975 to 2008, including the debut of retro science novel bounty hunter Monark Starstalker and all Dominic Fortune Stories, including the characters’ Exturan Turgated Max series, which was later published for a generation. Finishing the package is the collision between Pulse Heroism and Chaykin’s 111-page collaboration with boy writer Garth Ennis: The First Flight of the Phantom Hawk. The artist behind Marvel’s first comic adaptation of Star Wars movies, as well as the creators of iconic, influential series such as the sci-fi satire American flag! Only the adults are vampire legend black kisses, Howard Chaykin has earned a reputation as a prolific and essential cartoonist.

The volume will collect all 11 issues of the series, including Stan Lee, John Romita, Dennis O’Neil, Al Williamson, Jim Steanko, John Buscema, and many other legendary creators, offering high octane combinations of fantasy, horror and action.
