OhayoconOhio’s longest anime conference has filed a lawsuit Sekaicon Several people are linked to rival incidents, accusing trade secrets of theft, digital destruction and targeted misinformation campaigns.
According to the complaint, Sekaicon gained unauthorized access to the Ohayocon digital infrastructure, deleted years of critical event planning data, and repurposed Ohayocon’s official Discord Server (known as “Nohayocon”) to spread the damage falsehood. Social media accounts are also said to have been used to encourage boycotts of the Convention.
The lawsuit details the October 2023 Ohayocon’s Google Drive deletion of life files, deleting employee rosters, supplier contacts, visitor contracts, hotel arrangements, and internal documents prepared over 15 years. These missing records undermine Ohayocon’s operations in 2024, with attendance dropping from 18,000 to below 4,000.
Ohayocon also accused Sekaicon of alleging that the lawsuit alleged harassment and manipulation of staff.
The temporary restraining order, which has now been extended to 28 March 2025, prohibits Sekaicon from using Ohayocon’s intellectual property and requires the return of all stolen assets.
Despite the turmoil, Ohayocon remains committed to its future. “Our focus remains on providing attendees with memorable experiences and ensuring the integrity of our events,” said Tim Hook of the Ohayocon leadership team.
As the legal proceedings continue, Ohayocon urges the anime community to remain informed and supportive during this challenging time.
