Sony’s entertainment robot AIBO is entering the Web3 space through the blockchain program on Soneium, an Ethereum layer 2 network developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs. This introduces a series of Soulbound tokens (SBTS), which are digital representations of AIBO history.
First released in 1999, AIBO is designed as an interactive robot pet with AI-driven capabilities. It is quickly known for its ability to interact with owners, learn behaviors, and develop unique personality traits.
Now, instead of releasing new hardware, Sony focuses on bringing AIBO’s legacy to the blockchain to ensure it continues in the new digital format. AIBO SBT is non-transferable and can enhance its role as a personal digital souvenir rather than a tradable asset.

What is aibo?
The name “aibo” comes from the Japanese word “aibou”, which means “companion” or “companion”.
Sony’s robotic pets are designed to be used as interactive companions, leveraging AI to learn from its environment and build evolving relationships with its owners. Over the past 25 years, AIBO has been recognized as a groundbreaking robotic pet, showing how technology mimics social interaction and companionship.
By integrating AIBO into the Soneium blockchain, Sony aims to maintain the concept of digital companionship in new forms. The Soulbound tokens in the “Aibo Entertainment Robot” series are permanently bound to the owner’s digital wallet to ensure they cannot be sold or transferred. This approach reflects Aibo’s original purpose as an individual’s long-term partner, rather than a product that can change hands.

How to cause Aibo SBT?
AIBO collections can be cast for free on Opensea, and only a small gas fee is required to complete the transaction. Each wallet can generate up to 1,000 tokens, and the coining period is open until March 24.
More than 17.8 million AIBO NFTs have been minted since its launch, with over 56,000 unique owners. Sony has not announced any new hardware versions for AIBO, but the introduction of blockchain-based collectibles could mark a broader strategy to retain digital assets.
Is the plan purely used as a memorial project or laying the foundation for future blockchain-powered AI peers.
