In February, Mattel encouraged young black girls to consider the future of fashion with the help of Barbie dolls!
To celebrate generations of black female designers, Barbie is working with blacks from the Fashion Council (BIFC) to inspire a bright future for the next generation of girls. A new Barbie doll inspired by the first black Barbie doll, now available as well.
BIFC aims to increase representation while ensuring the future of blacks in the fashion and beauty industry. Barbie and BFIC break the barriers to prevent young girls from pursuing design by creating custom shows for ENVSN Festival 2025. This two-day young designer event offers activities for industry professionals, interactive workshops and memorable experiences!
These upcoming plans will focus on breaking down the barriers blacks face in the fashion interface. With the help of black designers Larissa Muehleder, Nia Thomas and Fumi Egbon, Barbie and BIFC will provide festivals with opportunities for self-expression, mentoring, and interactive meetings featuring fashion leaders.
