No exaggeration to say Carl Rubli As an actor, he has over 150 credits in drama, film, television and voice acting career. For comic fans, he might be the most famous of the famous Justice League animation series and its sequel series is the voice of the Mars Hunter Justice League Unlimited. After playing DC Universe Sandbox, Lumbly entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portraying Isaiah Bradley in the original Disney+ series Falcon and winter soldiers.
Lumbly will reprise Isaiah Bradley’s role in the highly anticipated film Captain America: A Brave New World Arrived at the theater this week. Before the movie was released, we were delighted to chat with Achievement, not only returning to the role of Isaiah Bradley, but his previous experiences with superheroes (including short-lived people) Mantis television series.
Taimur Dar: Before we enter Captain America: A Brave New WorldI have to discuss with your previous superhero Mantissuperhero TV series from the 90s. It has a very interesting production history. Apparently, the character was originally Virgil Hawkins’ uncle, called Static.
Carl Lumbly: Oh really?
Taimur Dar: It’s fun, in a few years, you’ll be in Electrostatic shock The animation series is a little fun.
Carl Lumbly: It’s interesting because I don’t know the connections. For me, this is a special project. First of all, this is an opportunity to wear spandex. So it’s cool. Not really. [Laughs]. The idea of a superhero is that he is just a mortal, he uses his gifts, thoughts and wealth to solve crime and try to do that without taking people off the planet. I like being a part of it. For me, the file is the pilot. That is everything is working. I think it takes a kind of courage that I think is shorter than it is now given the time and context. I don’t think the series represents the pilot’s progress. Usually, you think the pilot starts at a certain level, and this is the basement of the series. In this case, it has been determined that this is too difficult or not to force those who are going to participate in the next person. So they essentially removed it. That’s the best version of the character I feel like if I’m going to stay in one of the jobs I have to commit to what I think is not ideal. I give myself a b-in that navigation. I think there are moments that they can get. Other things are terrible.
Taimur dar: At this point, I have to mention through the late/great Dwayne McDuffie that I learned the Mantis series finale, involving you being killed by what he calls “budget consciousness” invisible dinosaurs. So I have to ask if working under such ridiculous conditions?
Carl Lumbly: I think maybe there is some loss of concept, so “Let’s end it.” I can’t think of anything meaningful, but given that things have gone, it’s perfect. I think fortunately, some of our lesser impulses become like dinosaurs. They live in our long past times. But racism is an invisible dinosaur, and all the notion of “ISM” as an invisible dinosaur I like. You don’t really see them until sometimes you sit on their chin. It may not be easy to brag about them these days, like the 60s or 70s or 80s I started out with. In some ways, it’s a proper ending, and it’s more than it might be aware of.
Taimur Dar: I don’t think it’s necessary to say that Justice League The animation series is from mants Storytelling and representative TV shows. In many ways, I feel like Justice League and its sequel series Justice League Unlimited This progress has been heralded in the past decade. After departure mants For Isaiah Bradley, how do you view it from your own perspective?
Carl Lumbly: Mars Hunter is very happy. This is a person separated from his history, people and planets. And find attachment points in this “brave new world”. This is the same juice I have for Isaiah’s juice, a man who has been deprived of his life and given the power and strength he can use, but he may not have. Having these powers traps him into being that frees him from everything. It was a young man who had just married and invited to be part of his efforts to save his country, but also represent his people, who he believed would make black people and women who serve the country equal. To turn that world out of it, to experiment alone, and to erase these achievements as if they had never happened, and he had never happened, these resonances in the lives of people of color in this country Played a role and around the world. Anyone who is displaced. Mars Hunter does this through light years of travel. Isaiah Adam we find him Winter Soldierhe was reluctant to take these steps. He was reintroduced into a world he still doesn’t trust but may be possible. Walking in the world with this feeling requires a kind of courage.
Taimur Dar: Isaiah Bradley’s character is a comic fan introduced two years ago The truth: red, white and blue. Apparently, adapting anything to other media always changes. Do you still find it valuable to read original graphic novels or rely mainly on scripts?
Carl Lumbly: I think my secular bible. [Laughs]. The reason I see it is because of my son. Initially, I couldn’t talk about my audition. In fact, during the first audition, the character’s name did not exist. I mentioned it to my son when I discovered it was Isaiah Bradley. His reaction was because I knew he was the traditional way of reacting to his father in his twenties. He said: “You have to read it the truth! “I got this. The audition Although Isaiah’s name is not there, the thoughts and feelings expressed by this character, a young man wants to be part of what he thinks is great, people don’t feel like they have a place, they do it This. More satisfying. If everyone can change things, they will lay their own lives. Not only oppressed blacks, but also white majority.
In that monologue, he talks about why he was fighting for the United States and what happened when he enlisted. He left his wife and young daughter. His wife was pregnant at that time. He had never seen his youngest daughter. He left, and what happened was beyond any imagination of hell. Whatever does it for you, I imagine what a heroic journey is, and that’s where he is now. Life is suffering, and I don’t want to say this in a way that makes anyone eliminate. Suffering all types of levels. Yes, pain is painful, and resistance to pain is even more painful. It is heroic to find a way to continue finding yourself in it. These are what people do every day across the planet. I think Isaiah represents that. There is something to say about firmness and operation from love. His wife was named Faith. So he has “faith”. He must. Because he didn’t give him everything in his life, maybe he had reason to stick to what life can provide.
Taimur Dar: One of my favorite moments in the Falcons and the Winter Soldier was the final episode when Sam Wilson led Isaiah to the Captain America Museum America Museum), showing him the statue of Isaiah and telling him, “Now, they’ll never forget what you did for this country.” This scene really caught the heartstrings, I think whatever race, Anyone can contact it. Did that moment resonate for you in any way?
Carl Lumbly: It resonates with people, and the idea is one day someone said, “I see you and value the fact that you are here.” To me, all this comes from the words of love. This awareness is the recognition of your inner love, which allows you to say to someone, “I cherish you.” I may have such moments. Not as dramatic as Isaiah, but something you think you are relatively obscure, someone stops you on the street and says, “I see what you do, and it touches me. I value you Do it, thank you for being you and doing what you do. “You can’t touch those things.” This is better than the tribute you get. We do this for our audience. But I think as a performer, I believe I am part of the audience, so I’m doing it for us.
Taimur Dar: Finally, any other upcoming projects you are going to discuss?
Carl Lumbly: I’m writing a show about James Baldwin’s people. He is my superhero. I plan to produce as a stage work by the end of this year. I didn’t make a resolution, but I was determined to do so. I did another project and I am very proud to be a part of the name Chuck’s Life. It will appear in May. I can’t describe it, except to read it with pleasure, having minimal relationship with it. I’m excited about it, too. It’s a smaller, more intimate and compact experience. But I think it will be very powerful.
