Beat chats with Casey about the upcoming mission.
Deanna Destito: What attracted you to this project?
Joe Casey: Well, in addition to dynamite backing up the edge truck to my home, I can see the connection between the two concepts, which is the basic creative structure. That lends myself to some kind of crossover, so I think I might as well do it before someone else beats me. As far as I know, it has never been done. Not so.
Destito: Are you a fan of Space Ghost and Joni Quest?
Casey: Of course, it was just the two of them that emerged from their minds Doug Wildey and Alex Toth. These guys are comic royalties, so the fact that they do these animated series is huge. When these shows premiered, I wasn’t even born. I’ve seen them in replays for years. But they are the real beauty that animations are closest to comic art. If you are a comic fan, I’ve recognized them from the moment I see them on TV screens since I was a kid.
DESTITO: If anything, how does this fit with Dynamite’s other Space Ghost series?
Casey: I think you can think of this as an activity book. This is not a traditional crossover between two ongoing titles. Fundamentally, this is your own business. In this way, we will not interfere with the normal monthly Space Ghost Books are being made, and they don’t have to worry about what we are doing.
Destito: How about working with this creative team?
Casey: Sebastian Piriz Joni Quest. So we just got into this series without any problem, launching on all the thrusters. Actually, it’s like Sebastian Steve Rudd, and Alex Ross (Personal favorite depicting the character).
DESTITO: If you could add another cosmic character to this book, who would it be and why?
Casey: God, absolutely. I mean, that’s cosmic, right…?
DESTITO: Do fans have any trailer?
Casey: It’s just that we come up with a story that respects both concepts equally, and it’s not always easy when they come from such a different environment. But we happen to take advantage of things that actually make your life better. Who else asks for what?
The space mission will debut on March 12.
