The first month of summer has been revealed for the American gaming market. As usual, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella shared the statistics on social media.
- According to Circana’s estimates, in June 2026, American gamers spent a total of $4.49 billion on video games, hardware, and accessories. This is a 21% decrease compared to the previous year, despite an overall increase in spending during the other months of 2026.
- The analyst explained the decline by highlighting the tough comparison with the previous year. He recalled that June 2025 saw the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which then boosted sales, but the situation has since normalized.
- The majority of the spending went to video games, amounting to $3.88 billion, which is a 12% decrease compared to last year.
- The highest-grossing game of June in the US was EA Sports UFC 6, while the second spot was claimed by the indie hit Meccha Chameleon. Besides these, the top 10 included only one new entry — Star Fox (2026), a remake of Star Fox 64 for Nintendo Switch 2.
- Sales of gaming hardware fell by 62% to $383 million. Notably, Nintendo Switch 2 sales dropped by 79%, Xbox Series sales by more than 50%, and PlayStation 5 sales by 19%.
- Sales of gaming accessories totaled $232 million, with a decline of 21%.
