Koutarou and Kajiwara were brought together by their close relationship as children, but despite their opposite personalities, they remained close friends over the years. Along the way, they meet Touko, a beautiful junior student in Kotaro’s department. Koutarou saw a glint in his friend’s eyes, he was used to this situation. logo When Kajiwara sees something mesmerizingly beautiful, Koutarou knows his friend is in love, just like him. Touko reciprocates Kotaro’s feelings, although the three continue to spend time together as usual and expect to remain the same forever.
Until one day, Kajiwara disappeared without saying a word. At first, the free-spirited man and Koutarou exchanged few text messages, no matter which country he was in, but they eventually fell out. Finally, Kotaro hears the terrible news that Kaji died in an accident. Although this must be true, knowing Kajiwara’s situation, Koutarou still finds it difficult to accept the fact that he is gone. So, were it his eyes or his guilt that deceived Koutarou into seeing his long-lost friend standing in front of him?
genetic triangle This is one of the announcements I’m eagerly looking forward to reading this year. Lin Wen also started working on another series around the same time, Big rosewoodGet Turkish language license sleepy coffee That’s how I learned about their work. I was instantly hooked Big rosewoodA contemplative approach to everyday life and the intricate web of relationships paired with beautiful artwork. So it’s safe to say I entered genetic triangle With high expectations and a lot of enthusiasm.
I was delighted to discover that the same care, attention to detail, and talent for making the mundane compellingly present on the page are present in the book. genetic triangle as well as. Lin explores a love triangle in which romantic and platonic feelings are intertwined in a way that cannot be easily untangled.
Kotaro has always admired Kajiwara’s energy and warmth. Compared with his dull and introverted self, he seems so energetic and easy to like. To him, it makes perfect sense for Touko to fall in love with Kajiwara, and even years after their marriage, Kotaro doesn’t understand why Touko chose him. His fear of the same aspects of his friend that he liked gnawed at him. When Kajiwara disappeared, a part of Koutarou breathed a sigh of relief, albeit a shameful one. He worries about the future when Touko finally “sees the light” and becomes smitten by Kajiwara, just as Kotaro was smitten by his friend’s sincerity.
What do I appreciate most genetic triangle The dynamic between the three is simple at first, but it seems so impossible to find a solution to their predicament that makes everyone happy and content. I’d like to see more in stories, especially those that include romance, to depict worldly complexity rather than simple extremes.
When a creator introduces an extreme situation, such as a massive debt, a life or death situation, or a severely violent, cruel character, it’s easy to feel where the creator wants you to stand and which character to root for. What’s more, the solution to a dilemma is often as simple as getting to your destination. However, the dynamic that Lin creates is very grounded. Although there are no clear winners or losers from this resolution, as is the case in relationships, I found the conclusion to this seemingly chaotic web of relationships to be satisfying and moving.
Another aspect I appreciated was that Touko was not portrayed as a “villain” who ruined Kotaro and Kajiwara’s close friendship. She is lively, kind and independent and Open, albeit a bit empty. What remains unspoken or misunderstood is never who loves whom or who ends up with whom. By avoiding the usual romantic triangle process, Lin has room to explore past memories and the reasons why the three of them grew apart.
The simple and cute art style complements the sincere and friendly temperament of the series. The characters in the play spend most of their time in the countryside of their hometown; The beach, or a walk in the street, every time, the landscape quietly sets the tone and wraps the characters tenderly. Kajiwara is passionate about taking photos of landscapes and nature, which relate to his stories and his character. In this sense, the continued presence of the plants serves as a reminder that Kajiwara has always been a part of these characters’ daily lives.
my only complaint genetic triangle The artist has succeeded in establishing clear parallels between the past and the present, following the sequence of flashbacks and current events. But even if they convey visually what they’re trying to convey, there are still many pages where the characters spell out the “message.” Not only does it create redundancy, but it also shifts the tone toward didacticity, which contrasts sharply with the rest of the story. If Lin had trusted their readers more, the series might have ended in a more nuanced, meaningful way.
genetic triangle Benefiting from Yen Press’s decision to publish it as a two-in-one volume, readers don’t have to pause between volumes. The series is a pleasure to read, thanks to Alethea and Athena Nibley’s smooth translations and Phil Christie’s excellent fonts. I wholeheartedly recommend genetic triangle For all comics fans, especially those who want to delve into a series with adult characters and complex emotions and An unresolved past. You won’t regret it when you meet Lin Wenye’s delicate pen!
The Genetic Triangle will be available digitally and in print on December 17, 2024 on the Yen Press website and other retailers.
