Skybound continues its unexpected casting choices Universal Monster: Mummyis a four-issue mini-book from Eisner Award-winning New York Times bestselling comic book creator Faith Erin Hicks (Pumpkinhead, The Nameless City Trilogy). This is part of their ongoing partnership with Universal Products & Experiences and will launch in March.
Hicks will receive help from: colorist Lee Loveridge (“Standstill”) promises a bold new take on the classic horror character who was made famous in the 1932 Boris Karloff classic and has since risen from his grave in multiple films , including a 1999 version by Brendan Fraser.
“What I love most about The Mummy is the romance behind all the horror. A mortal rebels against the ancient gods to resurrect his dead lover, and pays the ultimate price, becoming a walking ghost of death thousands of years later. The Mummy is essentially a tragic figure, driven by his own pain and loss, his understandable human emotions twisted into behavior. Hicks in a statement. “It’s exciting to tell this story from the perspective of Helen, the modern incarnation of The Mummy’s long-dead lover, and illustrate her growing awareness of the heartbreaking horrors that lurked in the shadows of early 20th-century Egypt. I hope The Mummy Fans of all versions will love my take on this romantic horror (or horror romance) story.
Helen Grosvenor was a woman born into two worlds but belonging to neither, forever haunted by a cursed encounter in her childhood. When an unknown voice transports her from the past to an Egyptian excavation site, Helen will unknowingly play an unexpected role in the rise of a monster known only as… The Mummy!
Previous Skybound collaborations with Universal include James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’ Dracula (which earned Simmonds the Best Painter nod /Multimedia Artist (Interior Arts, Eisner Award Nominated); The Creature from the Black Lagoon Alive! by Ram V, Dan Waters, and Matthew Roberts! and Michael Walsh’s “Frankenstein.”
Of course, no comic book horror story would be complete without a whole set of variant covers, and we’ve got them… along with early access.
