The Chronicles of Narnia has ended first as a set of BBC movies and later as an incomplete set of Hollywood blockbusters harry potter– fueling a gold rush for YA novel adaptations. So if it were to return, it might as well be a completely different version of CS Lewis’ book about children, witches and talking lions.
We Already Know Greta Gerwig – Director of Last Year’s Big Hit Barbie— was in development on an adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix, but we now know a little more about what those content will be through an interview with the project’s producer, Amy Pascal. The first film, which will begin filming in 2025, will be a “new take on the Chronicles of Narnia,” she said Tell deadline this week. “It’s all about rock ‘n’ roll.”
Do it again?
For anyone unfamiliar with this seven-book series, Lewis’s Narnia is a fantasy world that children can occasionally enter, where time moves in different ways and the mundanity and horror of normal life are allegorized by magic, monsters, and Jesus replaced by a lion named Aslan. There is no rock music in Narnia, at least as far as we know so far, not even much music.
So does this mean Gerwig’s take on the famous series will be a musical? Or will it be more subtle than that, like a Sofia Coppola pop Marie Antoinette Since 2006. BarbieDespite mature songs like “I’m Just Ken” sung by Ryan Gosling, it still doesn’t quite make it into a traditional musical.
