The next wave of home arcade craze will arrive next year.
Wonderland Amusements is officially launching amid rumors that many new players will soon be entering the category dominated by the likes of Arcade1Up and AtGames.
The new company, which debuted at this year’s Chicago Pinball Expo, says its mission is to “bring the fun of a true mechanical pinball machine into the home playground with a new line of compact, affordable tables.”
Alice in Wonderland is the first machine under development and today the team shared new footage from a recent visit to its overseas manufacturing partners. Wonderland Amusements plans to provide an authentic pinball experience by selling pinball machines for under $1,000. See an early prototype below.
When the arcade renaissance and home arcade movement began in 2018, virtual pinball machines followed the video game cabinet, replacing mechanical arcades with digital screens with tactile feedback effects. Currently, most full-size mechanical machines (including home-use versions available from retailers like Costco) start at about $5,000, making them expensive and prohibitive for the average consumer. Wonderland said its table ratio is about 80%.
The team behind Wonderland Amusements includes Jerry Cummings, Gary Monaco, Andres Quiros, Peter Gould and Adwood Tang, all industry veterans with experience from companies such as Arcade1Up, New Wave Toys, ThinkUp, Hasbro, Mattel and more.
Carlos Mendoza III, former member of Spirit Halloween, is working on Alice in Wonderland.
Additional updates will be shared on Wonderlandamusements.com.
